New 320 Gallon Thread!!!

Easy, I would not do it that way. You will never get the two flow rates matched exactly, due to design variations, differences in head pressure, plumbing varations, etc etc. I think by doing it that say you're setting yourself up for a big mess.

yea i decided that day that im not doing it that way, but couldnt update.. im gna do a closed circuit(?) filter system, 1 pump. i capped most of the returns in the back except for the bottom 2 corners, the pump will be in the tank and pump water thru one of the corners into a closed 55 gallon rubbermaid, go thru the media of course, then come back out the other side of the tub and back into the tank thru the other corner bottom return.
he was going to be in the tank by tomorrow, but some stuff popped up.. im at a community college right now about to take the 4th GED test, 1 more to go after this-im taking writing in about 20 minutes.. next week is math.. ive passed the 3 that ive already taken- science, reading and SS easily. : ) anyways, i had to take a long cab ride up here, so i don't have the money I planned on having this week. If hes not in the tank by this week, it'll be next week definitely... and ill be able to get pics up by next thursday.
i wish i could get on here more often!

So you're going to have the pump in the main tank? If you do it that way, the rubbermaid container or whatever you use will have to be watertight under pressure (a lot more difficult than you would think) or at a level above the tank so the water can drain back down after its pumped up. IMO since the hoels are already there, the best option would be to use the overflows as intended, and put the pump in the sump, then you don't have to worry about sealing anything up.

so you're basically using the large tank as a display sump with a tank above it...?

I've seen similar refugium designs

well, kind of i suppose.. if because the pump is in the tank it is technically that way
im not gonna be able to use my 55 gallon tank as a sump(im selling it), so Im getting a 50 or 55 gallon rubbermaid. im going to hide the sump as much as possible
