New 75G Up and running

Ok! I've been working on the tank most of the afternoon. The LR arrived around 1PM. Here are some pics of the LR still in the box. When I opened the boxes, I was immediately swarmed by an attack-squadron of hitchhiker gnats. That sucks as they now are all in my house. :wall:...and are still swarming around my head as I type.

Here's some premium Fiji LR. I decided to go with this LR instead of the base rock I originally was going to get along with the Lalo rock.

Not too shabby.

Here's the Tonga Lalo Rock.

After inspecting and scrubbing down my new rock, it was time for some aquascaping....Hoohaah!

After about 1.5 hrs of 'fiddling' with my tank, I carefully added the 20 more pounds of live sand I also had ordered. I don't care how careful you are adding this stuff to a tank full of water, it still makes a ridiculous mess.

Here's the tank now (about an hour later). It's starting to clear up nicely. :)

Didn't see any bristleworms. But that doesn't mean they aren't there. We'll see. There were a few very tiny hard corals and macro algae growing, however. I scrubbed alot of the color off the rocks while cleaning them.

Just ran some tests on the tank.
Ammonia = 8.0ppm
Nitrites = 0.25ppm
Nitrates = 0
pH = 7.9-8

A huge spike in ammonia since adding the LR and the 1st appearance of nitrite. I did a 20g water change right after adding the rock and sand.

great work in getting the new rock and sand in....nice layout....sit back ans wait the cycle out now...big water change when its finished to replace trace elements....

Great work...looking superb...

Thanks! It is much more interesting to look at. I look forward to watching the rock and seeing what 'pops up.'

Took more readings today...
Ammonia = still 8ppm +
Nitrites = .5ppm
Nitrates = 10ppm
pH = 8
SG = 1.024 @ 78F

She's moving along.

My skimmer is finally producing some skimate.(1/2 cup overnight.)

The rock looks great and you did a very excellent job of aquascaping.

Keep the pics coming.
