Our new 10 baby discus (1-1 1/2'') arrived via fedex yesterday :). All seem to be doing well so far, fins are extended all the way, they are shoaling and eating. This is a big step from all previous attempts at keeping these beautiful fish which mostly ended in failure. (Most of those fish died a day after the purchase from the LFS), even though my brother and I had done extensive research a year and a half ago.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask a question from those of you who keep discus.

I am a little overdo on water changes (just a few days), is it okay to do a water change, or should I give the little guys a few days yet to settle in a little more?

Also... any other tips on making them feel most at home is greatly appreciated, along with keep all of them alive and well for the first few weeks (anything other than general care).

I am hoping since we bought 10 of them that they will find it easier to adjust (safety in numbers).

CONGRATS ON THE BABIES!!

always a good thing.

I would wait a week or so as Scholar mentioned. They need a little while to acclimate.

Thanks :), I wanted to make sure I didn't do anything wrong or unnecissary to stress them.

yea keep us posted on how they do.

Congratulations.
I bought ten knowing I would probably lose a few in shipping or acclimation- now two months later all ten are still going strong. Didn't plan on ten adults and had to upgrade my filter to keep up- I bet that if I had only ordered 5 I'd have lost 3. Such is life.

They'll figure out soon enough that you mean no harm and are the bearer of good food. If they spook from time to time don't take it personally. After a water change or plant pruning you can literally not see any of mine for about 15 minutes, then they all swarm out again begging for food.

They beg for food a lot.
I think a wide variety of food is the best thing you can do. Mine are getting live California Black worms every other day, as well as frozen Hikari bloodworms, Wattley Discus formula, brine shrimp, Ocean Nutrition #1, and they absolutely love spirulina. I feed smallish portions several times a day, and added lots of ghost shrimp to get the leftovers. The shrimps will be live food as soon as my discus get any size on 'em, so they serve double duty :D I do change water twice a week, but that is only so that if I miss a day I don't have to worry.

It took a couple of weeks for them to start a pecking order, but I clearly have two dominant fish, and one poor bugger that always gets picked on despite the numerous hiding areas. I'm letting survival of the fittest reign- if I pull the runt out they'll just get the next in line to pick at.

Good luck and let's hear reports from you often.
