New CO2 Set-Up Questions

Alright. Took off the needle valve from the regulator and plugged the solenoid in and out repeatedly. Put the needle valve back on, and everything went as planned. Solenoid stopped the bubbles immediately, and started them again when I plugged it back in.

Problem though; I tightened the needle valve as much as I could, but there was a large leak coming from it. It was loud enough to hear. So I took it off, put some plumbers tape on it, and tightened it again.

Now it doesn't leak, but my problem once again is that the solenoid, when clicked off, does not slow the bubble rate to a stop. I am going crazy here.:wall:

The person on eBay said I could return it, but now it is clear that I have taken it apart.

The the question arises: Where can I get a regulator w/ solenoid that is not going to kill my wallet, but is not a POS?

This cost me $60 shipped. I guess you pay for what you get, but I can't afford much more.

a regulator that wont kill your wallet might end up killing your fish in the end.

Alright, alright I give in, just don't tell my girlfriend, she would murder me.

What are your suggestions on a quality regulator?

Milwaukee Regulator

The ones at GLA are much to pricey for me, unfortunately.

This is what I found doing a quick search online.

Aquarium Design Group in Houston, Jeff and Mike Senske, use a regulator/solenoid/needle valve set up made in Denton, Tx. I believe the brand name is Teledyne. I bought one from them new and used it for eight years, until I decided to downgrade my tank to low light, low tech. I sold it to a fellow aquarist in the Houston area last year and to my knowledge, it still works great. The solenoid is rock solid and the needle valve has a very fine adjustment that stays put when set. I recommend this set up highly.

A local guy is selling a Milwaukee MA957, CO2 reactor (http://www.aquariumplants.com/product_p/r500.htm), and SMS122 pH Controller for $100.

Is this a good bargain?

He claims that everything works great and is still connected now, but he did spill some liquid fert on the controller and the on-off button sticks.

I probably wouldn't use the pH controller, so I could sell that. If I did keep it I could probably just open it up and clean off the spill?

The reactor looks massive so I may not even use that. I hate staring at anything other than fish and plants in my tanks....

What do you think, buy it?
