New Discus

Cripple Creek- the (nearly) 2mile high city
I got my Discus finally. I had the tank cycling for months, then, just after Christmas I found a group of wild caught Heckels. So a couple of thousand miles of shipping later, and here they are.
I waited a week to let them acclimate- they're still a little skittish. Although sometimes they come right up to the hand that gives blood worms. So they'll calm down and adapt.

man... those are nice! Where'd you get them from? I'm a little nervous to go with wilds off the bat, but I will be getting some wild-types... some alenquer and/or santarems (among others). at any rate... NICE fish!

Okay, I'll try and answer all the questions.
They came from Florida, I got them off aquabid- I don't think he has any small ones left. Look in the discus auctions- he has a lot of stuff his handle is: snookn21.
They were actually only in transit for about 18 hours, I went to pick them up from FEDEX at the airport in Colorado Springs. Probably saved 8-10 hours by going 50 miles.
The water is R.O., so it should essentially be 0ppm tds. The temp is 83 F. I did a lot of looking and it seems that that is really what they come from. They were swimming in the Rio Negro just about 2 months ago. I actually upped the temp to 85F to try and reduce stress when they first got here, but that seemed to darken them out even more. They like the relatively cool (for Discus) 83. Ph is kept about 6.5 by discus buffer and dissolved CO2.
They're eating on live tubifex, frozen bloodworms and frozen mysis. I'll be whipping up some beefheart tonight (my wife keeps handing me the raw heart that's sitting in the fridge and asking me when I'm going to do something with it LOL)
I wasn't actually planning on ging with wilds, but they came up, and I'm sure glad I did. It's so cool to watch them school around. I'll try and get something up on youtube in the next week- but they're really still acclimating.

That's really terrific! Snook has some great wild fish, I've seen them. You're lucky you actually got a group of them, I think the wild collecting season has been over for a while now and they usually get sold as soon as they are available. Keep us posted with how they are doing. Wilds may have to be my next discus challenge, but for now, I've got a tank full of non-wild beauties that are going to be with me a long time I hope.
