New Discus

The stock and tank all look awesome. Enjoyed the video, attempting to suppress the urge to reenter the world of discus keeping. Good luck on you adventure and enjoy.

looks pretty awesome,
that is my next goal fish wise, discus

I'm curious why you would want wild caught discus?
Well, I've had discus on and off since the mid-late 1970's- when they were almost all wild-caught. More recently, I've kept mostly hybrid (super jazzy eye-popping discus) I was planning this tank to go with F1 wilds (first generation children of wild discus) I work for an environmental non-profit so it is not lost on me that depleting the natural rivers of these fish might not be a great idea. But I found these guys and thought I'd give a try. I've bred Discus before (and Heckels don't breed well in captivity) but if they did- a source of F1 Heckels would be good for everyone. Esspecially the wild ones who want to stay where they are.
When you see the condition of the wilds (or look at Axelrod's photos of fresh-caught Discus) it can be kind of shocking. These beautiful, stately fish are tattered and bruised- like they lived in a war-zone. Which they do. The Amazon and Rio Negro are not for the faint at heart. My Discus are always amazed that nothing tried to eat them today. And they are getting close to eating out of the hand.
