My 20 gallon finished cycling 3 days ago and I went to the lfs and bought fish 2 days ago. Then I went again today and I was looking at fish and I seen these 2 angelfish that paired up and were getting ready to breed. So I was like I have to have them. Probably one of the most nooby mistakes out there. I don't know much about angelfish breeding but have a basic understanding. I have a 100 gallon finishing its cycling soon so i will let it run a couple more weeks with fish in then transfer the Angela over to breed and grow out. Then cycle another tank for the angels to breed. They are still quite small so they will be suitable for my 20 gallon for awhile. Was this a mistake?

Not all impulse buys are a mistake. You have the room to keep them, it is not as if you were planning to keep them in the 20 gallon for ever. I sure it will work out very well.

I had a 5 gallon tank when I was a newbie and I got an Oscar and a Bonsai Flowerhorn. They were so small and cute, and I did not not know what I was doing. But it turned out okay, because I bought a 100 gallon tank when I found out the mistake I made. Like I said, not all impulse buys are a mistake.

I want to try to keep the fry but I am limited to a 10 gallon, 20 gallon, and a 100 gallon. At the moment I am using my 20 gallon as a community plant tank. My 100 gallon is going to be a bonsai garden type aquascape. And the 10 gallon is just an extra tank. I have a 55 gallon but thats pushing over the line with my mom. So I am pretty stuck as what to do. I can probably get a 30 gallon tall if I can find a cheap deal and use it to breed. Then I'll figure out what to do with the fry when the time nears.

With the tanks you have now, I'd say your best bet if you want to breed/sell often to make $$$ is to use the 20G as the breeding tank, and the 100G as the growout as after the pair gets the hang of it, you will be getting a batch meaning 20-100 babies monthly unless separated

Just make it bare bottom so its easy to change the water:D

if you want to artificially raise(meaning the parents don't raise their babies), use the 10G for that and then transfer into the 100G

seems like you do have enough tanks...

OR, instead of the 100G since its your bonsai scape thing, just the 55G as the growout, you should still be fine:D

You said you want the Angels to grow out, yet they paired up? What size are they? Angels like to be together, most likely just made friends at the store.
As long as you have a proper tank for the new fish and they won't all kill each other as they wait for their new home, no foul done.

My only thought is that I wouldn't want to be tank mates in a 20 with a breeding pair of Angels. It'd be a rough life!

I don't believe in mistakes, just learning experiances. In this case, it's neither, because you have plenty of space for a pair (or if they are young, to grow them out in a 100). As a pair, they would be best in the 20 gallon for breeding. As just two juvi's with a teen crush, they would be best in the 100 gallon for display.

Sorry I did make it a bit confusing. So what I meant to say was that. I was thinking of transferring the breeding pair over to the 100 gallon so they can make babies and the babies can grow out in that tank. They were in an all angels tank and they were defending a section in the take nipping the other angels, so I am not too sure if they made any good friends. :grinno:.

Put the angels in the 100g and find some mellow schoolers.
