You have a sump! That means the wonderful world of in-sump skimmers is available. Some days I can be slow.
CPR makes an in-sump model, the SR2, and it's cheaper than the bakpak.
AquaC makes the Urchin, which is an even better skimmer.
I have had my skimmer on a timer, being off for a good bit of the night, and there was never a problem. I think it even helped keep the venturi free of salt creep. On my 20, the bakpak was the noisiest piece of equipment, but wasn't all that bad.
I guess I'd go for the mag3. You can always throttle down, but you can't really add power if you need more circulation.
