New Panda Cory, not looking so good

I just got these 2 panda's today. I don't think one is doing well. He is breathing rapidly and staying at the bottom and not moving.
The ammonia is minimal less than .25 but not 0 and the nitrites are .5 and the nitrates are 20.
Do I need to give him time to settle in or is he doomed? I dropped a shrimp pellet and algea wafer right in front of him and he's not doing anything.
The other one is all over the place and right now seems to be playing in the current of the filter - pretty funny!
 
Water changes! Thats what you need to do to get your water params down before something bad happens.

Do about a 50% water change.

I actually think when the girl bagged him to bring him home she injured him because she had the bag turned upside down and when I got him home he seemed to be wedged in one of the wrinkles. I feel so badly.

Do you think the one left can find the top of the water? He keeps swimming up and down the glass but never making it to the surface. There is PLENTY of aurface area for him to make it, maybe he's just having a good time? It's only a 5.5 gallon tank.

First off, your tank is too small for Panda Cories. It would be great if you could get a 10 gallon tank.

Yeah, most people that bag fish don't really now how to do it properly, and they really don't care about the fish.

The one left can find the water surface. Cories tend to go up and down the glass if they are new to the tank, or if they are lonely. And because he is new to the tank, and because he lost his buddy, thats probably why he is constantly going up and down the glass. Also sometimes Cories go up and down the glass for fun too, and that could be the reason.

So, if you can upgrade to a 10 gallon atleast (which would be a very good idea) you could get him some more freinds and he'll be so happy.

I'm trying to do a fishless cycle on a 20 gallon so he will be moving up shortly. :)

my corys always swim up and down the glass , specially the albinos, I think they have a good time doing it :) Silly fishes. :) Friends and a bigger tank are best as Cory Lover says. Good luck and love your fishies, I command it! LOL! Pandas are quite hard to keep and touchy, more small water changes are better then one or two big ones to be honest. :)
