I'm impressed with my local Petsmart. They have a nice diversity of fish, although nothing spectacular. Other pet stores have lots of tanks, but not much diversity. My LFS that I go to regularly, has a better selection of fish and plants, but their prices on supplies is too high in my opinion. I usually use Petsmart for certain equipment and supplies.
I have a new one opening near work june 4th. I have to admit, the ones i've been too have a nice selection, and the current one closest to me is actually pretty good. I am hoping this one will be good as well. I plan to be there opening day to see how things look
All the tanks are overstocked, but the fish manage to at least look healthy. Bettas are kept in cups, like always....its the regular petsmart store.
Biggest complaint here is the goldfish section. They have a HUGE display next to goldfish tanks, where eclipse 6 tanks are marketed as the *~-~~"PERFECT"~~~-~* GOLDFISH ENVIRONMENT. SUITABLE FOR 1 OR 2 GOLDFISH!!!!
6 gallons is not enough for any fish, besides a betta, let alone 2 of the messiest fish available.
One of the lfs around my area has this betta displayit has the cups but they are stuck into the back of the display and the water is constantly flowing through each glass and it is then filtered and replaced just like an aquarium.
I went in to a newer Petsmart awhile back to score some Prime and I was very impressed with their selection of Fish and the condition of their tanks.. I was expecting it to be a bad scene like the Petco around here but it for sure wasnt...
I disagree, but that is another topic(dp's come to mind).
I still like my Petsmarts. They attempt to take good care of their fish (dont know about goldfish as I have never really looked at them - dont like them).
I went into a PetSmart store in Palmdale, CA. on 10th St. W.
The entire store is beautifully kept, but the fish department was spectacular. Large selection of fishes. Tanks SPARKLING CLEAN! I was so impressed I told the employees how wonderful everything looked. They were pleased to hear that their hard work is noticed and appreciated.
I have a Petsmart, Petco and PetSupermarket nearby as well as some other LFS and honestly the Petsmart seems to consistantly have the best looking fish and biggest selection and I never have trouble finding an employee to assist me. There is an LFS that has been recommended to me by a local fish farm that I still need to go check out. I am hoping they have Bristlenose Plecos =)
