New pics minus the hair algae... er, I mean, most of the algae is gone

Ace I'll trade you my camera for your tank! hahaha. It took some getting used to shooting macro stuff but I have the basics at least figured out somewhat. I had never really done any macro shots (my wife and I have a photography business, but I am the apprentice kinda guy). I spent the last year doing pinup model sessions and tattoo artists. So shooting in a tank was really hard to get used to. But thank you very much for the kind words. I wish I could take credit, but it is really the lens... I shoot in manual mode and in RAW format. But I shoot with a fix focal length portrait lens (100mm). It does a nice job with macro stuff. As for apparature settings I shoot wide open and this time I dropped my ISO all the way down to 200 and put the camera on a tripod with a timer. The only post processing that I do is to match the white balance to the 14000 K from my light. No other adjustments are made and I have been pretty happy with the results (gotta say, when I saw that Green Pavona I about had a heart attack, I love that picture... not bragging mind you, i just aimed the camera, but that pavona is amazing).

Sorry. It is a canon 40d. Last night I was using a Canon prime 100mm 2.8. No flash or external lighting.

Well it sure beats the hell out of my Nikon Coolpix 5700, but then it's about 7 years old and technology has come a long way since then.

yep tech advances quick.
If you are in he market for a new camera for a reaosnable price check out the canon Xsi rebel. It is the entry level dSLR but it is a great camera and a very good price. Then just swap out the lense for the best one you can afford and you are golden. They are great cameras. Nikon is also really good, but I have been shooting with Canon's for close to 28 years... I am a creature of habit. lol.

thank you. And, yes, it is much brighter in person. It is really starting to encrust right now, which is pretty cool to watch.

I thought your tank exploded or something recently. Talk about a swift come back! :headbang2:

hahaha. Didn't explode. It drained, completely. But, yes, it was a quick comeback. Though only because Tulsa has some wonderful people. I was able to trade out some stuff to replace my coral. None of the equipment was damaged, just the livestock and the coral. i am still replacing my livestock (going on my fourth skunk shrimp). I think my tank is haunted by teh ghost of my first one... they don't live very long (one was eaten by the nem from hell and the onther one simply vanished).
