New Prime Smells Terrible

It does this when I use it and I've had no ill effects. Although it should subside after a couple of hours.

Funny, I have probably used close to 50 litres of the stuff since it came out, and apart from a mild sulphur odour that emenates from the bottle, I have never had Prime smell anything like fæces, either in or out of the bottle.

Keep two things in mind. One is that there seems to be some exaggeration here and two people smell the same things differently. ;)

Yeah, everyone’s sense of smell can be slightly different. Some things are foul to some and mild to others. I for one gag when I smell Flourish Excel, and the scent seems to 'stick' in my nose. Its literally made me nauseous for hours and almost lost it. I dont consider Prime much better. I say it stinks. However it doesnt make me feel sick and it doesnt remain in the air unless it was spilled. if you want something concentrated like prime w/o the smell, Genesis seems to be a good conditioner (1 drop per gallon dosing). Or just buy the dang chemical by itself, Sodium thiosulfate, that would be by far the cheapest way to go. Not sure if it smells though? Anyone use it in its crystalline shape?

does your prime smell like a wettish fart in an enclosed shower cubical with hot steam everywhere and water? If not then there may be a problem with it.....

Now you mention it, that is a pretty accurate description! lol

Sodium thiosulfate is the genesis stuff & works on chlorine but not on chloramines. Prime is a different chemical or combination I think. Once when I asked my chemist husband if an old bottle of genesis would "go bad", he said you'd know by the really awful smell. Like what? I asked. "You'll KNOW as soon as you take off the cap" he said.
I've read of people using the bulk crystals on another forum but don't remember the dilution. One order (500 gram?) is a virtual lifetime supply but many municiple water supplies use chloramines now. I don't know if it's ineffective or just less effective. (I try to ask later--home repair day isn't a good time.)

Ok, I was going to post that my bottle of prime stinks bad! but I see there is a thread already about it LOL! yep, mine smells like someone died  but if you say its normal, well ok. I liked the other stuff I had better and I will be going back to it.

i've never had prime that had any odor at all.
maybe my tolerance was just way up there due to getting used to AmQuel for so long lol.
AmQuel's odor puts Prime to shame.

Prime smells like rotten eggs, but it works. It smells in the bottle never in the tank *shrug*
