New record high price used aquarium

The only experience I have is as a kid I caught a rock fish in a tidel pool at the beach, took in home in a bag and mixed up Morton salt (to spec) in my 10 gallon aquarium and after a week took it to the pet store to sell it and the clerk freaked out told me it was poisonous so I took it back to the tidel pool and let it go. So maybe on a basic level with a little creativity SW doesent have to be too hard or too exspensive.
 
Oh boy! they not only accepted my offer on the 250 tank but are willing to drive it to my home 60 miles and help unload it for practically free $16. They were also very up front about its condition. The tank seals are great and only some minor scratches on the bottom left unnoticeable when filled. The stand is sound but has water damage on the bottom shelve because the privious owner did not know how to seal PVC threaded pipe, all cosmetic and all inside not outside. The top canopy has some water damage on the inside edges of the plywood (typical). And they are willing to negotiate the original price if I'm not satisfied with what I see on delivery.

What do you think? Will the built in back over flows be an issue if I decide to go FW and can they be removed if I decide to use the back VS the front. Or should I commit that since its pre-plumed to commit to SW as part of my decision? Do you think $200 is too low to ask? Lower? or stay? All considering that I will have to keep it outside to refinish first, the easy part IMO. The hard part getting it in the house. Should I go out and buy a 4 wheel dolly to set the tank on so I can at least move it around while its waiting for the refinish?

Well its done. I have accepted and the tank will be delivered for $276. Because there description was so forthright I wont quibble and ruin the deal. I told them my word is my bond. So God Willing, the deal is set and I am about to buy my 5th tank. What have I done!:hitting:

I promised my self I would never post a buy again before its completed because on a different deal the owners got called (not this forum) and the deal went to someone else like a week later. But in this case I needed to vent and ask your advice since you have all been so kind to me. Anyway If its meant to be its meant to be, either way Ill be relieved and not disappointed as there are more deals in the future to be had always. But please your opinions mean much especially since I know nothing about salt, I hope my water softener salt at $3 for 50 Lbs can be used lol..

I have to time this just right. My wife is going out of town this weekend (FRI AM) so the delivery, repair and refinish have to be done by Friday evening so It can all dry and be set up when she arrives Sunday morning. My hope is she wont be able to tell the difference between the burnt cheery 125 tank and the same finished 237 tank going in its place. The 125 will have to be drained and moved into my office where it is starting to get a little humid. My wife asked me last week why her humidifier never turns on anymore and why the humidity is reading 40 when its not even running. Global warming?

I would leave the overflows in, if you remove them the silicone will have left a mark that you won't be able to get rid of. There's no reason you can't use a sump on a fresh water tank. If you decide to go salt water i'd suggest researching it and doing it properly to save yourself a lot of hard work. There is a reason why people spend so much time and money on marine tanks. IMO a successfully marine tank is going to cost a lot more than a freshwater tank and if done right there should be no reason for it to fail.

Well your right of course too much work went into those those overflows just to remove them. Just though if the scratched are bad in front (I hate scratches), the back would be pristine if the silicone was removed and the glass was polished. But I'm getting way ahead of myself as I have received no response to my acceptance of their offer and you know how that goes on craiglist, its only good to really be excited once the tank is sitting in your garage lol. In all negotiations whether on Craiglist pr Ebay it's always best to hope for the best but expect the worst with an anecdotal attitude if lost :cry:
