New tank journal

I have thought about both the betta and blue rams. I like both ideas, just wanted to put it out there to see if I could find something I haven't kept before.

I'll have to see if I can find some cpd's. I think they would be a cool addition to this tank.

I love celestial pearl danios. I have 7 and they are amazing little fish, so colorful.

German blue ram would be a nice little center piece fish, so personable!
Don't these tend to stay lower?

My CPD's swim everywhere. Mostly in open water.

The ram tends to dwell in both low and mid level. He definitely catches eyes when anyone looks at my display tank. More so then my large angel does surprisingly.

Sorry, Def. I was referring to the ram, not the CPD. I have 5 CPDs (ordered 12 from an online shop a couple hours from home, paid a ton for shipping, 4 DOA and 3 that didn't make it much longer than arrival, and I have 0 response to email, phone call, and text messaging since 4oct18, so won't be using them ever again) but will hopefully be picking some more up locally. Found a place that has them as of today, so I hope they're still there when I go to make the trip tomorrow. They've just started venturing out from the shelter of moss, wood, and hygros this week for more than just food, so they're getting comfortable.

And yes, I seem to recall that glass cats are schooling fish. Then again, I was told that at one of the common pet stores, so YMMV.

Ok, so between Friday and Sunday I lost 4 neons. Water params are good, I don't know what happened save to say that they're neons and just not that hardy. I've read that if they get past 2 weeks or so they're bullet proof, which seems to bear out in my tank. So no more of them. I've got 4 in there now that seem to be doing well, but I'm not going to get any more.

I haven't seen the little black molly in a few days. I've looked all around the tank and he is no where to be seen, not even a corpse. The tank is covered except for the strip on the back behind the glass hood... I don't know if he decided to do some carpet surfing or what...

I know the glass catfish needs friends, but I don't intend to keep him. There's a store about an hour from my house at which I can rehome him... it's just a matter of getting out there. I may actually bring the neons there too.

So Sunday I decided to set out on a mission to find something really cool to add to the tank. One of my local stores had red neon rainbows. I had never seen them before, but they are really beautiful little fish. They only had 4 so I got them all. I'm currently looking for a shop that can order me a few more.

I'm putting thoughts of a centerpiece fish on hold until the rest of the stock is more settled.

Sorry to hear about the neons and your molly. The neons are finnicky little fish for sure.

Would love to see some pics of the red rainbows!

I'll try to get some pics, but these guys are tiny (about 3/4") and never stop moving!

I don't seem to be able to catch a break with this tank... now I've got a panda cory with a shredded rear fin. I can't figure out who could have assaulted him.

This seems to be determined by where they are sourced. The aforementioned vendor I got some from? Those CPDs tend to stay largely under cover, whether it's under the hygro leaves, darting through the moss clumps, or into the rock caves, they stay low. The ones I was able to acquire from a "local" vendor (~an hour away) stay *above* the cover almost all of the time. It's funny that how they're raised can impact their behavior.

How interesting. Mine are locally bred and behave the way youve described.
