Hi All,

I am in the process of putting togther a new 125g Reef Tank.

I have kept a planted FW tank for around 3 or 4 years now, but this will be my first stab at SW.

I already have the tank (125g AGA with twin Megaflow overflows 72"x18"x22"dp) and I am in the process of building the stand. After that I will be buying everything in bits and pieces.

My main question is, take a look at the list of equipment below. Seem like a solid setup? Am I missing anything? I plan to set this up as a reef tank. I don't know exactly what all I am going to keep, but I don't want my equipment to cause a bunch of limitations on what I can keep. I am not looking for the best of the best of the best, but I do want solid equipment that will allow me to sucessfully keep almost anything.

  • AGA Model 4 Megaflow Sump (will replace bio-balls with LR Rubble)

  • Coralife Needle Wheel Super Skimmer -125 G

  • Coralife Calcium Reactor (will take CO2 equip. from FW tank)

  • 2x Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA 200W Heaters

  • Either: Coralife Aqualight Pro 72" 3x150W HQI MH + 4 96W PC (834W Total)
or Current USA Outer Orbit 72" 3x150W HQI MH + 4 96W PC (834W Total) .... Haven't decided which, any opinions?

Water Movement
  • Mag Drive 18 (1200 Gph @ 5') - Sump pump
  • 2 x Hydor Koralia Model 4 (opposing acrossed front of tank)
  • 1 x Hydor Koralia Model 1 or 2 (Back middle of tank pointed forward)
  • 1 or 2 x Hydor Koralia Model 1 (Top Back of tank opposing)
All controlled by a Neptune Systems AquaController Jr

Substrate
~200-250 lbs
~2" layer of fine sand topped by another 2" of 50/50 live sand and Aragonite

~175-250 lbs of Live rock

Plus a Typhoon III RO/DI unit from AirWaterIce for all of my water needs.

I am going to put all of the mechanicals together and see if I need a chiller before I go and buy one, but if I end up needing one I was looking at a Pacific Coast 1/6 HP Inline Chiller. I am hoping I won't need one. Tank will be on an interior wall and will not recieve any sunlight, temp in the apartment is 72F or below. Anyone with similar conditions have any input?

Wheeew...that was long. ...so in conclusion, poke holes in my plan if there are any. If not, feedback is welcome. :dive:

That looks like you will have a really good setup!

Granted, I am a nano keeper, so im no expert on the big tanks, but it looks like your going to have a lot of fun.

I bought the mega flow model 4 sump and hated it. I wasted my money, I got rid of it and bought a cpr sump. It states that it's rated for up to 200 gal don't believe it I have a 180 gal with two overflows putting out 700 GPH each and just over powered the sump, I kept getting micro bubbles from the return. Also I had to modify the sump just to get to pumps to fit. Just my opinion good luck though you will enjoy it.
