Monday I'm picking up a 60 gal w/ stand por gratis!!!! wooohooo. It used to be a salt tank but the kid left it w/ his parrents when he moved out. They put it in the paper "free you pick up" and I was the first caller. It has been empty for about a month and first thing on my list is to clean that bad boy out. I'm thinking it might replace my office tank........ oh the possibilities.......oh the pain in my billfold..oh the.......you get the idea. :D :) :D

I do need to get the BOD to ok it. Do you think I'm an addict? I just don't think the little 10 is good enough. But what am I gonna put in it? I love agressive fish, but since I get a lot of kids in here, I don't like answering "why is that fish bitting the other fish" Then again I don't want a bunch of eety beety fish in such a large tank. Mabey barbs, or ( I don't like 'em but) rainbows? I've got some thinkin' to do
 
You like colorful, aggresive fish? You don't want them killing each other too much?

Ive got just the thing : EXODONS!

Yep, also known as the 'buck tooth tetra', they are a good looking fish, not too big, and school well...but make SURE that you put at least 12 in there...or some of them may start to turn on each other. They will eat anything...from what I hear. :D
 
y'know, I think I saw these at petsmart the other day. May be just the ticket. i'll look into them
 
You should definitely do that. I've heard great things about them, but in my experience, the best and alltime coolest aggressive fish ever has got to be the wolf fish. Yes, they are a bit expensive, but they are worth EVERY penny. Look up hoplias malabaricus or even try finding some info about them on this site. They arent really very...compatible with many other fish, but I love them just the same. You tend to become really attatched to them, and they are more fun to feed than piranhas are.
 
I would check this tank out first. Maybe they are giving it away because it was cracked or it leaks? I would fill it up outside or a place where it didn't matter if the whole thing fell apart. I bought a few used tanks and I set them up for about two days in the basemet by a drain pipe. If a tank that big breaks, your looking at a big mess.

There is a good chance the tank is fine but I would still test it.

If it was a salt tank, get ready to scrub. It shouldn't be too bad if you have a razor blade though. Its my favorite aquarium cleaning tool ;-) Just be careful on plastic and in the conrners by the glue.
 
BOX, thanx for the suguestions. When you try and specialize in a certain type of fish it's hard to think, um...... outside the box? if youy will.

Jon, although I am aware of the dangers, and the necissary maintenance reqired of me, I still apreciate your advise. Had I not known you might have saved me a lot of trouble.

Now, my big jack in the 55 is pretty docile(he hasn't killed the con or the little jack yet?) I might even use him as a starter for this tank. Mabey not.... I think I'm too excited to think clearly at this juncture....................(ohhhh yea, ne tank whut whut hooody hoooooooo)
 
Just got the OK from the boss. :dance :laugh: I asked to see if I coud donate the tank, and have it paid for by the company and they are actually going to consider it!! I picked it up tuesday and have started cleaning it out. It smelled like the Frisco bay during red tide. Blech cogh cough.
