New to this all starting out with a 2.5 gallon betta aquarium. help is appreciated!!

Most CFLs are soft white, which is the wrong spectrum...not to mention very yellow and ugly on aquariums. Daylight should be just fine. No incandescent bulbs though, as they put out lots of heat and don't grow plants as well as they do algae!

how many hours of light?

Most of the places I'd read about the 'pea method' actually said only 1/8 - 1/4 of a pea, once or twice a day, once a week, followed by a fast day (only one person said to fast the day before instead).

I just use a toothpick to cut the pea halves into 4 pieces ea and usually feed 2 pieces per betta once on pea day. When I had a sorority in the community tank however they did 'steal' as many of the other fishes peas as they could lol.

The only fish I've ever had eat itself to death is neon tetras, and it was on live black worms. Gorged itself till it basically 'blew.' Blech. I didn't care for cleaning that up...
When I feed worms now after the neons have had 2 or 3 I chase them away for there own good.

Gorgeous little girl! :)
Just a heads up, a lot of white bettas will eventually turn pink, so nothing to worry about if she does.

If you want I could send you a little hornwort, pm me. I could throw in a few mts (malaysion trumpet snails) and they would/could help with algae.

One of my betta girls would pull the snails out of their shells and eat them and another one eats them shell and all if they are small enough lol, helps with population control though. :)
...and snacks ;) ...

cool thx ill pm, and ill try the pea next week

so im wondering if im feeding her enough or too much. she gets 1-2 small bloodworms and 1-3 pellets a day. she seems to eat them no problem.

That should be enough. Their stomach is about the size of their eyeball, though they do insist it's much bigger lol.

I don't know how much longer (or if) it makes the food stay fresh, but I've read of putting those 'moisture packs' like they put in jacket pockets and purses and stuff at the stores to keep the moisture out, of taping one to the inside of the lid of fish food when you open a new jar to help keep the food fresh and dry. Sometimes they fall off the lids and into the food but I doubt that's bad for it, they put the same thing in some vitamin bottles. I get mine at work when I get to unpack the brand new flipflops, I figure since they're sealed in plastic and no one's tried the shoes on yet that it should be safe to use those moisture packs in the food containers. (I think...)

i wouldnt feed freeze dried bloodworms bc it can make the betta bloat. i feed my betta 6 pellets a day and part of a frozen blood worm cube once a week.

so a quick update. elsie is doing great, got her some bamboo today. also im getting closer to starting a second freshwater tank. my mom is sending me a 10 gallon half moon tank with filter and light. i also might be getting a 20 gallon from a friend. my one friend has recently got a saltwater tank and he bought me a test kit for helpin him research fish for it and basically doing testing for the next few weeks while his tank is stocked, he bought an already cycled one off craigslist and all the water params look good. this site has been so helpful.
