ok, so I am working on a fishless cycle in a 90 gal acrylic PLANTED tank, so if anyone could help with compatibility, I woould be forever greatful! These are the types I like thus far:

Kuhli Loaches maybe 4, since I can't have bristlenose plecos, as they scratch acrylic

Sailfin Molly

Corydoros Catfish to keep some leaves and rocks clean

an anglefish or two

4 or so JUMBO neon tetras

a couple Pearl Gouramis

Opaline Gourami

Dwarf Gourami


and my one male betta


My objective is colorful, interesting and symbiotic working. I could be way off, but then again, that is why I am asking here :sim:

looking to do a 90 gal acrylic with a fluval 404 <maybe I should get another adjunct filter, 2 WON proheat heaters totalling 450w....any info reviews, ideas...welcomed

one other thing

I was looking to maybe even hook up an Pentair Aquatics (Rainbow Lifegard) 25 Watt UV Sterilizer QL-25 to said set up. Any thoughts?

A bristlenose Pleco scratches acrylic tanks? I've never heard that. Amazing.

Betta, Angelfish, and Gouramies?

A combination of any two of those would not be good. To add all three? In my experience and from what I have read is the usual situation, there is going to be some major fighting going on.

I agree about the fighting, some are not compatable. The following link is something that is a quick to referal when selecting fish. I find it real easy to use.

I checked that very chart, and if you look it says Y for all three...lol That is where I got the bright idea from. Oh geesh back to the drawing board.
 
i might suggest one dwarf Gourami and two anglesfish, mine have always gotten along fine together, going on over a year and a half together. Though i would hold off on the angels until after the tank has been established for a couple of months. By the way i think dwarfs have way better coloring than regulars.

and I may be wrong on this but if it's the Jumbo neon tetra's i'm thinking i saw in one of our local chain stores there not neon tetra's at all but painted tetra's, and I wouldn't advise buying any painted or dyed fish as it is cruel. A better suggestion may be to go with a larger tetra such as bloodfins, congo's, there's a ton of different ones.

The "jumbo" tetras I've seen in my LFS are just adult tetras labeled as jumbo.

I also agree with everyone else about mixing labyrinth fish. It usually doesn't work out for the best.

I'm with fishyaddict about the dwarf gourami's I have one that when it turns just right in the tank lights, it lights up with an awsome turquoise on red color. I'm sure however that no matter what fish you pic the tank will look great. Good luck!!
 
ok so the Dwarf Gourami is a go, and if I do angels, I would of course wait a long while so the other fish can have confidence in their environment and not be bullied. So the neon tetras do not come in Jumbo then...I saw some at drsfostersandsmith.com, and they looked like neons but were a bit bigger, because I was afraid the gouramies would eat em up. OK so so far, all I have is one fish in a 90 gallon tank. I still need help! lol It will be heavily planted so some algae eaters would be great. I loved the idea of the plec, but everyone I spoke to with acrylic tanks say they scratch them up, so I was thinking about the Kuhli loaches. Do they do well with Dwarf g's?
 
The "Jumbo Neon Tetras" may be actually Cardinal Tetras. They look similar but the Cardinals get a little larger than Neons. You can tell by the fact that Cardinals have a completely blue half and red half that separate their bodies horizontally. Where the Neons red and blue halfs are at a slant, and do not reach all the way from the head to the tail.
