PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay now I am really freaking out. I did a 50% water change today and added stress zyme and now my nitrites are worse!!!!!!!! They were bad before anyway, but I thought the water change would help. Is there anything else I can do Immediately. I don't want to lose my fish. Three months and it's still not cycled. My ammonia is only .25 and my nitrates are at 40 I think I would have to go check the card again. Once again I have a pleco, a cory, three platys, a swordtail, 5 black skirt tetras , 2 silver dollars and 3 adfrogs and many ghost shrimp. Fish seem to be acting a little different all the sudden. Going faster than normal, I just had a ghost shrimp jumping near the surface. Hopefully it has nothing to do with this. I am using ACE ammonia, chlorine remover with all water changes. My ph is 7.6 out of the faucet. Please help. I only have the one filter that came with the 55 on it, I believe it's an aqua Tech. I can't even think right now. Please somebody any ideas???

Test your tap water (and post it's params) , and next time you do a water can you test before and after the change? Also, STOP adding amonia, that's probably contributing to the long cycle time, and all you realy need bacteria wise right now is enough to suport your fish (wich is probably a lot of bacteria becuase of the pleco).

The ammonia is 0 and the nitrites are 0. THe ph is 7.6. What else do I need to test???? I'm not sure. Oh I think you misunderstood. I am not adding ammonia, it's called ACE Ammonia, chlorine, chloramine remover. I would never add ammonia , I don't know anything about doing that. Please let me know what else to test my tap for. THank You so much............

I asked her to post the params of the tap water, thinking it may be that, but aparently it's not.

Test your water before and after doing a water change (and pease post what % that water change is, as well as the before and after params) without adding the stress zyme, as that may be responsible for the increase in nitrites, and this is the only way to tell for sure.

It seems to me that you are mainly concerned that your NITRATES are too high- this has nothing to do with the cycling of your tank, and if NH4 and NO2- are 0, then it is cycled, but if you are worried about your nitrate (NO3-), then don't worry if it exceeds 10ppm if algae is not an issue. Only worry if it goes higher than 20-30ppm- if so, do a 50% water change.
As long as your filter is not messed with, you can do a 50% water change daily if needed, as the beneficial bacteria adhere to surfaces, and are not present in the water column.

OK my bad, if the nitrites are in the tank are still high, just continue with the H2O changes and stop using stress zyme. By the way, isn't stress zyme that product where it is the wrong type of nitrogen consuming bacteria for the aquarium? From what I've read from some threads here, they are notorious for nitrite spikes due to a massive bacteria die-off (they can't survive in your aquarium). If I am not mistaken, I think it was Roan Art who said that. Maybe you could use the search function and try looking for information about stress zyme. So my suggestion is step up with the water changes and stop using stress zyme. Good luck ;)

EDIT : I've read that the product Bio Spira is the one that contains the correct type of nitrogen-consuming bacteria for the aquarium. You might want to try to ask questions to those who've used it before

Yes, Khombre, that's correct.

Stop using Stress Zyme, please. Water change it out if at all possible. The ONLY thing you should add to your tank if you are cycling it is a water conditioner and/or Bio Spira. If you use Bio Spira, only use Bio Safe or Prime with it. Nothing else.

Hi Everyone..........

Thank You so much for all the advice, I obviously need it! I am beginning to wonder if it's ever going to cycle. I wish I would've written down the day I started all of this. I know I've had it going close to 3 months. I didn't know the stress zyme was bad, that's what I was told to use. I'll quit that for sure. In the trash it goes........ I also cannot figure out why my nitrites are the about the same before and after the water changes. ROan- Is it okay to use Amquel Plus or is that the same thing???? I ordered it online Saturday before I posted this. I don't wanna try it if it's bad for the fish. My sister uses it in her tank. I'm gonna test the water now and then do a change before I go to work. Thank You all sooooooooooooo much. I haven't lost any fish now that my ich problem has been gone. I sure don't want to lose them now. :D

ROan-

I hope your still here. I have another question for you. Imagine that (lol). I haven't ever had babies before. My platy had them last Wednesday. I went out and bought a 5 gallon the night before she had them. When I got up Wednesday morning I could tell she was going to have them. I know it sounds funny but I saw what I thought to be like a mucus with a ting of blood. So I assumed she was going to have them. I immediately put her in the 5 gallon. Had to leave for a few hours to work they were already born when I got home. Obviously the tank didn't have time to cycle. Do I still need to do regular water changes with the babies in there??? That scares me to death. Dare I attempt to vacuum ever??????? I've lost one in the filter somehow. I have pantyhose over it better now. The first time I didn't cover the whole filter and two got in. Thanks again for all your help :D
