Noisy penguin 100

I would say it is defective, I have 2 and they both are silent other than the splashing. The splashing can be tuned by where you keep your water level.

My unit restart by themselves after a power outage no problem. They don't always after a major water change, but I just prime them when I am doing a water change.

Bio-wheel stops turning normally means the filter media needs replacing, filter housing or impeler needs cleaning. Don't clean the Bio-wheel. Just drop it in the tank while you clean the other parts.

So I went to Big Al's today, and after some testing they replaced the impeller. It's quieter now, but it's not as quiet as my aquaclear.

I'll let it run for one week and if it's not better next weekend I'll ask for a refund.

I see that it sparked a little debate  , I hope that it will settle soon... I didn't know that people here were so attached to their filters

Thanks for all the info...

It's for a 10g (my 25g has an old aquaclear 200 that is silent and runs ok for now, but I wish it had a little more power, not much water agitation from that one).

Can you measure your whisper 20 and tell me th width? I can fit a 6" filter, any wider and I would have to cut the hood a little.

Where would I find a Whisper in Montreal area? Normally I always go to Big Al's because it's been recommended to me, but I don't know any other aquarium only store in my area (only petshops....)

I want to return the Penguin tomorrow morning, and I will have to find another filter right away because I don't have any spare one.

My Whisper is 7 inches wide. You could also try the Whisper 10 which is 6 inches wide. If you can go to WalMart, get a Whisper 5-15. It pumps 90 gph and has the innovative new design. I love mine. Also, PM me if you get a Whisper and want to know how to buy cheap cartridges.
