Octopus tank (log)

fluffys condition hasn't changed much in the past week. iv stated to feed him squid and he'll eat one or two small pieces of that a day. i cant say im enjoying enjoying this drawn out sage but i do get to watch him paseing back and forth across the tank walls at night. (a behavior sometimes linked octo senescence). when he does this hes almost in a trance. he doesn't notice me ,even when i press my face up to the tank, unless i make a sudded movement.

Octapus are hard buggers to keep happy. I wonder if they get seriously bored and just die of boredom?

When I was a kid my Dad set up a marine tank. He stocked it with 2 octopuses that were about the size of large grapefruit. About a year later one was found dead in our hallway two rooms from the tank. It was believed that he squeezed out a small gap in the glass covers. Next night the second one was found down the hallway in the same spot.

I always wondered if they just got bored and had to go walk about.

Maybe put his food into a jar he has to puzzle out so his mind gets worked.

Recheck to make sure you have zero metal contacting the water. Water tests don't necessarily show metal toxins building up.

What is your makeup water supply like?

Hope Fluffy makes a comeback.

Fluffys still going, and eating. If its senescence he lasting longer than i thought it would.

Id imagine that being as inteligent as they are they can find way to amuse themselfs. mine spends pleanty of time digging, moving shells around, and 'playing' with feeding sticks. Thats not to say they shouldnt be given more things to do. I have some floating balls in his tank and i used to have pvc pipe in thier. (I biol anything i put in the tank)

Im suprized the octos got along for that long; they dont mix well. How big was that tank?

I have made sure to never let the water get contaminated with metal. the water is a mix of RO and instant ocean salt mix.

Good to hear about your water source (whew) and that he has play things.

I was very young at the time so I don't remember all the details. According to my brother, 5 years older, there were no fighting issues.

The tank was a classical metal framed glass one - about 40gal. It could well be the metal chased them out too.

earlier this week i decided not to feed fluffy for a day to see if his appitite might return. and it has! he reaches out to grab food again and iv got him back to his normal sum of food. and today he came out to play briefly, twice :D. im not letting myself get excited yet but it was most diffidently a welcomed behavior.

As a matter of fact I whipped out my camera after i posted and got a vid of him (:
