Hello, I have a 90gallon with 5 Clown loaches in it amongst other fish. Anyway four of my loaches swim back and forth along the front of the tank, only sitting still at one end for a second or two, then up and swim back and forth all over again. This never ends, they never stop. Now one of them just puts along around the back of the tank and never gets caught up in the ruccus. What's going on? I thought they were supposed to school/shoal, whatever it's called, but only four out of five are participating?

Secondly, all the pictures I have seen have clown loaches sitting fairly still on the bottom of the tank. What's up with that? My guys hardly stop to take a breath? Are mine weird or just energetic?

Thanks for any advice or input!

Steve

i believe (someone correct me if i'm wrong) that this happens a lot with bottom feeders. lots of times, when u have a shoal of bottom feeders, one gets left out. (their was recently a thread posted about corydas catfish acting the same way) i don't think theirs anything wrong with your excluded clown loach

Cool thanks Freddy! Now about my second question, is this constant movement normal for clowns? I usually see them sitting on the substrate in pictures, but mine loook like this always:

swiming up and down? thats normal, clownloaches like to play around alot, they would always wim back and forth with eachother for fun, but when they eat they spread out.

My kuhli loaches run into the aerator and take the transport up, then they cruise down, and up and down and up and down... you know wot i mean lol. It's so cute tho!!

Mine are exactly the same in my haeavily planted 72 gallon communty. They never stop moving.

Ive rarely ever see them lie on their side at the bottom of the tank. In fact, when ever they see me, they come towards the glass and swim up and down looking for food!

They know me well. LOL! :joke:

you could try to add a few more clowns to the tank to see if the "odd one " will take up with them.

Could the lone one be sick? Loaches will reject a member if they are sickly. I got a sickly one from pet smart, he was rejected displaying the same behavior as yours, then the oscar ate him.

Well, I don't think any of them are sick, and now they seem to be swimming together, and/or apart more often. One or two will take off together, and the others will go another way. Then the ones that left previously will pair up with one or two of the left behinds and go off on another tangent?! All to be repeated like the instructions on the back of a shampoo bottle!!? HA!

Hope that makes sense? HAHA!

Anyway I can't tell you how much I appreciate your inputs! I hope I can help some of you out one day to repay the favor!

Talk to you all later.

Steve
