oh boy paludarium experiment #2

Oh man this is awesome!! I really like this, and never thought to do anything like this with an aquarium. Thanks for the tips and ideas w/the HC. I would love a set up like this one day. Might I add the other tanks and stuff you have look amazing as well.

some updates... everyone is doing aok in this tank. it's proving to be a rather simple tank to maintain, although the filter foam needs to be rinsed every 3 weeks or so, or the spray bar slows way down. you can see that the HC doesn't like to have water spraying hard at it, and is dying off at the points where it takes the hit directly, but is doing fantastic everywhere else. I've actually removed a full "portion" of HC for use in another tank, but you'd never know. the anubias from Inka is doing awesome too, having pushed roots down into the substrate, starting to fill in the cave area as planned. the frogbit grows roots a little too fast, I am starting to consider hydrocotyle or duckweed again, even though I love the look of the frogbit, but the danios don't like the roots and avoid them. I've also found the roots get furry when mature and collect a lot of junk.

for those who've asked, the cork is showing no signs of deterioration at all. and seems to be a great planting medium for the HC and anubias, both of which are firmly rooted to the cork now. It's also proving to be a great part of the filtration plan, with tons of algae and mulm forming where water runs over it. the water is mildly stained with tannins, but is not bad at all.

on with the pictures
