Okay... So I'm Doing Tangs...

that is what I decided to do... I appreciate everyone's advice very much, but it was just too conflicted, so I decided I'd do it the old fashion way, try it out, and keep an eye on things best I can. I have room to shuffle fish around, should things deteriorate too badly. for anyone interested, I'll let you know how it goes right here.

You'll definitely have some shuffling to do at some point. I've removed nearly as many fish as I've added due to aggression. You'll find that magical mix eventually.

I hear ya... should be interesting, anyway. and to answer pittbull, I did not ask. the thing is though, he's held those cyps for me for quite some time with no money. after a delay occurred in the buy date, I offered to pay a deposit so he knows I am serious... you know how people can be when buying online. I did not want him to think I was a joker. so, bottomline, I made a promise, and feel obligated to see it through. so, I figure I'll give it a shot. if I think it is not working out, then I will try to trade them (I did offer them up for trade in a local club already for some paracyps... but so far, zero... and I mean zero... interest. so...

Okay... so here's the next question.

The occies are going into my 33 gallon flat back hex instead. as fate would have it, I ended up getting a pair of Lamprologus ornatipinnis instead, for the tank that this thread has been all about. so, if the occies will go into a 33 gallon flat back hex, are there any other tangs I can put in that size tank with 'em, as maybe a smaller community tang tank?

What are you going to place in with the Ornatipinnis my breeding pair were very aggressive when breeding which was frequently..

I meant to imply that they are now in the tank with the calvus & comps. the altos completely ignore them, and they have so far completely ignored the altos.

so far, usual cichlid posturing among the altos, but no actual fighting yet... and the calvus are young adults... fingers remain cross.

Yeah should be fine for now just keep an eye on the Ornatipinnis when they are full grown mean little boogers aye.. here is a couple photos of mine..

As Jpap mantioned, J. Transcriptus would make a good addition, but I would allow the Occie colony to become established first. My Transcriptus was just as eager in trying to eat my Occies as my Calvus were. I would only add one Juli, as I'd hate to see the aggression level while breeding in this species. Not to mention you may lose a few trying to establish a pair.
