This is my first post and I hope somebody can help! I am an old-school fish geek just geting back into the hobby after a few years off. I have owned my 125 gallon since my old days working in a LFS. It is (I think) an All-Glass Aquarium (no tag) and is 72 x 18 x 24 and has very thick glass. It has its original frame which never had a center brace. The original top was in 3 sections and used two plastic clip-on "shelves" (for lack of a better word) that fit on opposite sides of a 24 x 17 piece of glass that sat in the center. The glass fit on the lip of the tank and the "shelves" were used to support the ends of the two 24 x 17 glass tops (Versa Tops?) that sat on either side of it. I hope that makes sense...
Problem is, the original glass top (all pieces were old and damaged to begin with) was eventually broken and thrown away during the 6 years the tank has been sitting in the garage. I am looking either a: to find the "shelves" so I can buy a piece of glass and 2 Versa Tops or, b: to get advice on what else I might do. I definitely want to keep this tank and several LFS's have been unable to help. Aequeon/All Glass no longer makes this part and I am reluctant to replace the top frame.
The tank was designed to work with no center brace. I had it set up for years with no bowing, etc. so I am not worried about that aspect, just the ability to support a glass top. I'd even consider one giant 72 inch top, but have been unable to find one. I have looked at GlassCages.com and every other place I could find on the Net. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
