This is my first post and I hope somebody can help! I am an old-school fish geek just geting back into the hobby after a few years off. I have owned my 125 gallon since my old days working in a LFS. It is (I think) an All-Glass Aquarium (no tag) and is 72 x 18 x 24 and has very thick glass. It has its original frame which never had a center brace. The original top was in 3 sections and used two plastic clip-on "shelves" (for lack of a better word) that fit on opposite sides of a 24 x 17 piece of glass that sat in the center. The glass fit on the lip of the tank and the "shelves" were used to support the ends of the two 24 x 17 glass tops (Versa Tops?) that sat on either side of it. I hope that makes sense...

Problem is, the original glass top (all pieces were old and damaged to begin with) was eventually broken and thrown away during the 6 years the tank has been sitting in the garage. I am looking either a: to find the "shelves" so I can buy a piece of glass and 2 Versa Tops or, b: to get advice on what else I might do. I definitely want to keep this tank and several LFS's have been unable to help. Aequeon/All Glass no longer makes this part and I am reluctant to replace the top frame.

The tank was designed to work with no center brace. I had it set up for years with no bowing, etc. so I am not worried about that aspect, just the ability to support a glass top. I'd even consider one giant 72 inch top, but have been unable to find one. I have looked at GlassCages.com and every other place I could find on the Net. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

I have an all glass 125, same as you, no center brace. I built a canopy for ir, but the water vapor has started to ruin the canopy so I need a glass top to prevent this from happening...

My lfs can get me a new top frame for the tank that will accomidate the 3 section glass top.. for about $40. the glass top is about $60...
so that would cost about $100..

If you find what was originally set up on this tank, PLEASE let me know....

My concern with the canopy is evaporation and moisture. That would allow me to build a DIY light setup though... hmmm. I just wonder about the evaporation issue is all.

I will definitely let you know if I find the original parts, etc. How painful is it to replace the top frame?

visit a local glass shop. They should be able to cut one out for you for about $50-60.
I got one for my 29g (29"x12" piece) for $14-17 don't remember for sure..

Then you can either order a hinge online or make one yourself out of silicone

Yeah, the hinge is findable and still made by All Glass and Perfecto. I will see how expensive it might be. I wonder if there might be a problem with a 6 foot glass top, though. There must be a reason they don't manufacture one. Thanks for your help.

I have been thinking about making braces out of glass or aluminum using silicone to secure in place. The trick would be to make everything flush with the top lip so the tops do not slope. Any thoughts? And thank y'all for the replies! As an old newbie (new oldie?) I love the idea of this forum!

It seems too expensive to make a glass hinge, when a wooden canopy can be much more attractive for around as much. Condensation should be an issue, if you give it proper ventilation- ie: a fan or some slits. The evaporation shouldnt be a problem. I always think it helps get me in the water changing mood.

You could cut a piece of glass the width of the tank and silicone it to the under side of the lip of the rim/ frame, then silicone another piece on top of the glass that you just siliconed to the underside of the rim so that it would be flush with the top side of the rim so that the glass lids will be level, hope you understand, I will do a ms paint drawing for you ;)
