OMG HELP, what do I do? Baby Needlefish?!

Ha! They really are like little needles. :)

I think it's amazing.. I've never seen fry that look so similer to adult fish.

The only area they're different are their short beaks, they seem quite a bit shorter than on adult fish.. and their size of course :D

but they even have that little black stripe running down the side.

Some updated info, I found two more in my main tank. Sadly, one of them looks like it has a broken back (looks more like a seahorse), probably just a birth deformity :\

What about using a net breeder in the main tank until you can get at least a 10 gallon set up for growout? A 5 gallon nano tank is pretty unstable...

I moved them to the Nano.. my heater broke in the night and the temp dropped to about 65F, they still look fine though. I replaced the heater and am going to slowly raise it back up to where it should have been. You're right about the nano, these things are stupid hard to keep in line.. and all the heaters and filters i have for small tanks aren't the greatest quality.

It looks like the ones in the main tank are gone :( Was probably my ZigZag Eel, it eats the hell out of worms and these looked like tiny worms. Either that or they're just hiding really well, which is possible, they're hard to see.

Check this out though. about a week ago I trimmed all my plants. Completely ripped out my Jungle Val and my Hornwort and threw it in a bucket. After two days I threw those plants into a soon-to-be brackish tank to help the cycle along. Didn't like the way they were clogging up my Emp400 so I took them out within hours, all except for one hornwort stem.

Anyways, just this morning I noticed about 6 Needlefish in the 29g brackish. I couldn't believe it.. apparently they had laid their eggs on the plants over a week ago and hitchiked into the brackish tank. I'm surprised they hatched considering they sat in a dry bucket for two days

but I wonder how many of these poor fish died in that bucket? :( the plants are all dried up and dead now, so I know for a fact the eggs in the bucket didn't make it.

I have just had the same fortunate happening, and am wondering about your success. I luckily noticed the eggs being laid, and put a few in a fry net in the tank to monitor. I would imagine all the other eggs have been eaten, since the tank they are in is my predator tank, but it would be cool to one morning see a few little babies swimming in the main tank.
I would imagine the gars were eaten by their parents, they say baby gars will even try to eat their own kin, and die because they are too big for their stomach.
Seeing your pic of the babies has made me that much more excited for mine though, thanx.
