Major crisis.

Just last Friday I bought a guppy at the fish store and they accidentally gave me a snail along with it. Well, i didn't realize this until i got home, it was soo tiny about 1/2 the size of a finger nail, and didn't want to flush the innocent creature, so I left it in my tank for a few days. Well..BAD IDEA.
Just today I was cleaning my tank...LOTS a little tiny BABY SNAILS! && i thought the one that i got by mistake WAS a baby...

wow

What should i do?? Please help me!!

if you want to get rid of it...the only way is to get some kind of snail eater like some kind of loache. Other then that theres nothing else you can do, these things will over take your tank like crazy. I had the but i dont know why ppl are annoyed of them...makes the tank look more natrual.

Thanks..

do you happen to know a name of a common freshwater (community) loache. I know of someone who had the same snail problem (turns out they had a few hidden snails when purchasing live plants) They took over the ENTIRE tank completely covered and impossible to get rid of...they had to clear then tank and start over just because of it.

But i didn't know fish eat the snails..cuz of the shells. I would be interested in looking into one of the loaches though...as long as they aren't too big and I can get them easily.

well i dont know your tank size. But i think the kuli loaches eat snails...but the only loaches i am able to find in stores are clown loache and weather/dojo loach.

You would have to keep about 4+ to keep them happy cause their a school type fish. Or just get 2 and return them b4 the warentee ends and hope they cleaned up all the snails...witch they do pretty fast. =p

But i havent head alot of snail eating from weather loaches tho..so im not shure on that.

Yeah I've seen clown loaches those are the most common but some stores categorize them as semi-aggressive..and are they snail-eaters do you know by any chance?

Yoyo loaches will also eat snails. They're active and need a pretty good sized tank though (at least 30-35 gallon I'd say). Also when the snails run out they'll need sinking foods.

Another option is to remove the snails manually. You could pull them off the glass or put a piece of lettuce in overnight. In the morning when you take the lettuce out there should be lots of snails on it.

If the snails are multiplying quickly that could be a sign there is lots of excess foods in the tank for them to feed off.

Thanks a lot!

ehh..the yo-yo loach. I had one of those, within 2 hours it jumped out of my tank (which is covered jumped otu by the filter opening part) and...I found it in my dogs mouth =[

I've tried manually but they are just so tiny and hidden in the gravel..also they stick..hard to get.

The lettuce thing sounds like a pretty good idea though..i might try it.

*oh and i do own many sinking wafers for my corydoras.

So..do you think a clown loach would be okay in a guppy/balloon molly tank? (20gl) and would it help the snail problem?

Or is a yo-yo the better choice?
I never see yo-yos in common fish stores anymore.
