Oscar out of water for 10+ minutes....Oh NO

i have a 20cm long oscar at my 3rd residence overseas...its always jumping around do i put a heavy lid..whenever i feed it it jumps -.- i always hear water splashing when it wants food..but na never seen it jump out before...

My rope fish was notorius for jumping out of the water. i had read somewhere, that they have survived up to 8 hours!!! out of the water.

Also, at the LFS I work at, we put lids on all of the small holding tanks (especially the ones with the bigger fish). I came in one morning and started doing the fish room list, and noticed a 10"+ Pleco on the floor... dry as a bone. I was thinking "Oh great.... one of the big plecos decided to commit fishicide.". I picked it up, and was about to toss it in the garbage, when it flopped in my hands... I was like WTF?! So, I put it back in the tank and saw it breathing... few hours later it was moving around like nothing ever happened.

I have no clue as to how long he was actually out of the water, but he was dry.... there was no water on the floor... and he lived.
