Here is what I have in my Wal-Mart Special 55 Gallon tank:

25 Tiger/Green Barbs
5 Bala Sharks (yea I know way to many for my tank size but I will upgrade)
2 Red-Tailed Sharks
3 Albino Rainbow Sharks
2 Kissing Groumis
2 Kory Cats

Am I over stocked? I am having a problem keeping the water clear, its fairly clear but not as clear as I would like it. I am running the filter that came with the tank, a Wisper 60, and a Wisper 10-30i. It is not a planted tank.

pH: 7.0
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrate: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm

I hope I gave all the information needed.

IMO you are overstocked because of the bala's like you said even if they are small now that is still lots of them. If you are upgrading the Bala's then you would probably want a stock list that looks something like this:
25 Tiger Barbs
1 Red Tailed Shark(will fight when there are two in the same tank when they get older)
2 Rainbow Sharks
2 Kissing Gouramis
6-8 Cory Cats
something similair to this will most likely solve your cloudiness problem and it will be a well balanced tank you can alter the list however you want that is just a suggestion.
HTH and Good Luck

My balas are fairly large. The smallest one is probably about 4 inches and the largest being about 5-6 (maybe 7) inches. Would this stock list work?

30 Tiger Barbs (I love my barbs :dive2: )
2 kissing gouramis
2 Rainbow sharks
4 cory cats
1 pleco

??

Thx

are you talking a common pleco?

I would suggest a dwarf(smaller varierty) maybe a bn(bristle nose)

you can only keep 1 rainbow shark, like the redtail black shark, they will fight to the end.... even in a 55 gallon. You can only have 1 rtbs or 1 rainbow, 1 of each of them will be a problem too.

25 Tiger/Green Barbs reach 3" long. DEFINATELY too much for a 55.
5 Bala Sharks get about 14-18" long, very fast, hyper fish. i'd sugest nothing smaller than a 6 foot long tank.
2 Red-Tailed Sharks like dangerdoll said, you can only have one or they will kill each other. they get about 6" long.
3 Albino Rainbow Sharks same as red-tailed shark. these are the same fish, just different colorations. basically you can only have one, either one albino rainbow, or one red-tail.
2 Kissing Groumis these get about 8-12 inches long and can be very agressive. best to only have one in a tank, and one is too much for a 55.
2 Kory Cats there are several different species of corydora catfish, ranging from 2 inches to 6 inches. you'll have to be more specific. cory's also need to be in groups of about 4-6

Ok so what do ya'all recomend I do? Angel Freak says 25 barbs are ok but Rockabilly says its not. Its the same with the LFSs ya go to one they say one thing and ya go to a diffrent LFS and they say something completly diffrent. Who do you trust? who do you believe? everybody thinks they know it all and everybody thinks everyone else is a moron. What do I do? just trying to learn....

Use the species profiles and research the fish you have and make your choices. There are many sites out there that are species specific where you can get extremely detailed info and behavior patterns. Some times the advice is affected by the aqua scape you set up and the food you do or do not feed and your water maintenance.

IMO, cut you barbs down to the 10-12 range, lose the balas and gouramis, and as has been said, only one of the RT/Albino sharks. Need more info on the corys for a recommendation. You will need to look at the adult size of the fish you keep AND their behavior patterns to judge capacity, along with bio-load.

Just curious, how long have you had this tank set up? You mention it is an unplanted tank and you are having issues keeping the water clear and you post levels of 0/0/0 (Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate). With that number of fish in the tank, and if fully cycled, IMO, you should see some nitrates, always.
