Overstocked?

Hey folks,
I posted this in the general freshwater, but didn't get any responses, so I thought maybe this would be a better forum. I've been mulling over how to restock my tank for a bit now, and now that I've a snazzy new light and tank all set up, I think I'm going to go for it. But what shall it be? Here's what I've got:

Equipment:
40 gallon tank
96w Coralife Aqualight
Fluval 404

fishes:
5 rummynose tetras
1 ottos
5 tiger barbs
1 chinese barb
1 redtail shark
1 SAE
6 head & tailight tetras

I do about a 30% water change once a week.

What I want to do is return the head and tailight tetras since they sorta just hang around and get about 4 more ottos and a couple of pakistani loaches. Do y'all think this would be overstocked?

I think with that filtiration and size of your tank, it shouldn't be overstocked. None of your fish, from my knowledge, will out grow your tank. The amount of fish you have is just right.
 
excellent news. when I get back from Yuma, it's off to the lfs!
 
I'm planning on getting a few ottos--I just had a major algie outbreak with the new light. Hopefully more ottos and more plants will help the situation.

final update and one last question. Here's the breakdown of my little fish community:

5 Tiger Barbs
1 Gold Barb
7 Ottos
1 SAE
1 Red Tailed Shark
5 Rummy Nosed Tetras
3 Candy Striped Gobies
& Lots of plants

I seriously want to add 4 or 5 small tetras to swim around the top of the tank since most of these guys hang in the middle or on the bottom, but I think I might be pushing it already. Any ideas?

(tank recap: 40 gallon tank, Fluval 404, coralife 96W PC, 200W heater)
 
I would ditch the red tail shark. Usually they get pretty mean towards other bottom-dwelling fish. I would be worried that he would pester the gobies too much. If you did that, you would also open up your options to increase the number in one of the groups of your shoaling fish.

I'm kind of attached to the red-tailed shark. He does chase the SAE around a lot, though.

If I were to return him, what would my options be in terms of a small school of small fish?
 
If you don't want to add more of the same to the schools you already have, I'll cast my vote for 3 or 4 lampeye tetras or giant danios. ;)
 
The giant danios look cool, but they seem, well, kinda giant for a tank my size with the other fish, nay?
