today to the lps to buy some brine shrimp, while i was looking at the fish i saw two pacu's each in a 20 gallon.i told the person that worked there that they need at least 300 gallons when they are that big(18 inches)and she said that as long as they can turn around that they are fine.the thing was they could barely move at all.whats worse is they are trying to get out,the one did get out,he busted the glass and got his whole side slit open.the stupid person was scared to pick it up and put it in the water(big empty tank)so i did, then i asked her why she didnt pick it up herself and she said that she had just had her nails done!she didnt want blood on her hands, that fish died within an hour.i felt so bad for it,i brought a betta home that they were going to throw away!he has ick,not a bad case of it so im treating with warmer water and ick away.he is opaque with a black head.im trying to find somone with a huge pond or a very big tank(at least 300 gal)to take the other pacu.the person also told a man buying a betta that he could put it in his cherry barb tank!

STUPID people!! I have a similar issue with my kids school. Idiot teacher won't even return my calls about the Oscar and Pacu in the 40 gallon hex tank. (Only guessing its a 40 gallon, could be smaller) I would have probably flamed her!! Try calling the manager or owner.

Our Walmart sells Pacu's. Apparently a bunch of them. Can't imagine the abuse they must suffer, because there's NO WAY there's that many people here in town that have huge tanks for them!

you should make a sunroom with a pond in the middle
the neighbors down the street have a raised "pond" (its really a tank but they couldnt find a hood and light to fit it right away so they called it their indoor pond and the name stuck) thats like 700 gallons or something with a filter to match (like 5000 gph) they have 25 angels (p.scalare) in it with 16 reticulated corydoras, and 10 angels (p.altum). its awsome to see and its planted and everyting. its so cool to watch the angels school like they do. its like going to the shedd aquairum
its about a good 7' by 3' by around 4.5 feet tall (they had it custom built)
they use this huge python cleaner to suck up all of the nasty suff and they only do w/cs every two weeks to save water (not neccesarily money mind you lol)

yea i saw you posted earlier about this. its sad really since the person in charge of it was being so ignorant. they listen after one of the fish crashes through the glass

Good for you for enlightening some folks, or at least, trying to! It is sad what happens to fish, unforunatly, people just dont know better and arent willing to change their minds.

You might want to think about the salt treatment for your betta, its less stressful on them. If you decide to, dont mix salt with meds, do some water changes and put some carbon in the filter to get all that stuff out.

There is a restaurant in Tally called The Silver Slipper, frequented by legislators, other 'up & ups', and they have had the same paku in a 29 gallon tank for at least the last 5 years, Ive seen it every time I go there. It honestly looks fake because it cant move, looks like a glossy framed picture because the tank is about 8ft off the ground near the door. The fish is easily a foot tall and long.

i put the betta in a one gallon tank for treatment,im going to give him a salt bath if the ick treatment doesnt work.

Youd probably want to go ahead and treat his q tank with salt, if the meds dont work. By that point, the ich would have gotten stronger and would need a more intense treatment. Use about 2 tsp per gallon, raise the salinity slowly and dissolve the salt in some tank water before adding it to the tank. Treat for 2 weeks if raising the temp, longer if you are not. Just be sure to treat for awhile after you last see any spots, as it may still be present.
I always recommend that people go straight to the salt treatment and skip any meds, theres just too many instances of them not working!
