Parents and Me (long rant)

In my signature, 46 gallon, and a 10, but the 10 is at my GF's house... I take care of it so I guess it's mine haha.

Already tried letting them read the site, I even read the site to them... They don't listen to a word of it... Well, they do, then they say everything on the internet is wrong and what they know is undeniably correct.

I know what you mean. I went with my dad to the pet store to pick up a few thing ;) Everything I got I had to explain to him, then he went and got the sales guy to confirm. He then made the sales guy go everywhere with us and give us his two cents. It was double annoying because the guy didn't know that much.

Luckily my parents both support me in basically everything I do :)

Even that would be amazing. But as it stands, I can't even shop with them. They roll their eyes when I buy anything fish - related ("You're buying MORE stuff for your tank?" *roll eyes - cue complaining and lecturing*) Thankfully my girlfriend can drive.
 
A suggestion. Have them set up a tank of there own, there way and manage it the way they want to. You have yours set up the right way. And see how things go. While fish may can live in the conditions that they kept theres in, it is not humane to the fish, this is the part that they are not understanding.

Of anything for me , this would give me the incentive to make my tank the best it ever could be to show them the proper way. Somewhere along the lines your parents don't respect your knowledge or support you for doing the right thing. If your parents would like to put a face or voice with the name of "us ppl on the internet" pm me and they can have my phone number to see that we are REAL ppl. :)
 
When any of those situations arise in the future just tell them that Dirtydawg told you to do it that way. For instance...

(mom & dad): I told you to change your water once every six months not 50% weekly!

(red_wall): But Mother dear and Father dear Dirtydawg told me to do it that way.

This should help your arguments immensely. Good luck!
 
Remind your parents payback is you chosing their nursing home. :lol:

Seriously, good luck, dont give up. I think when your parents see you suceeding, they might lighten up. At least I hope they do.

Do water changes when there not around and buy locally with cash,you may pay a lil bit more but its less hastle.The less parents know the less they will bugg ya..
 
Go into the TOTM archives and print some of the previous planted tank entries and winners..
Show those pictures to your parents, and explain that this is the type of tank you are trying to achieve, and ask them if thier tank looked like that 20 years ago...
