A Humane Society contacted me regarding two parrot fish and a shark they have. They don't know anything about them except they need a home. Came in with a 55 gallon tank. I know very little about these fish. Could anyone fill me in or direct me to a site? Sure hate to transport them for two hours set up a sytem for them and then not know how to care for them. The tank and whatever filter they have now comes with them. Thought I could bring 20 gallons of water with them from the old tank.

Thank you for the site. I'll study it tonight. Yes, I have a 75 gallon community tank. Was actually planning on setting up a new 30 gallon. The 55 would have to go into the computer room. Just never considered Parrot Fish.

75 gallon:
14 neons
3 lyretail mollies (females)
2 platies (females)
4 cherry barbs
2 dwarf neon rainbows
way too many bottom feeders:
6 corys
4 polka dot loaches

Yes, it is fresh water. I wouldn't even consider it if it was salt water (way beyond me!) They only said the "shark" was seven inches long. Guess I'll find out if I go there. Also said there are two goldfish in the tank with them. Maybe I could get a friend of mine to take the goldfish.

I'm betting the parrots are blood parrots, not a parrot cichlid. I'd probably take the tank just for the challenge of it as you'll probably have a lot of work to do to get it up to par. Let us know if you get it and how it goes. I'm horribly curious as to what is in the tank and the state it is in. But then I've always had a "fixer" personality type LOL!

I am very curious also. Yes, I know about the "fixing thing mentality" I run a dog rescue in Michigan. It would be great if they were the blood fin parrots. Really like the looks of them...know nothing about them...but really like the looks of them.

Ohh, what breed of dog? I work with Great Pyr rescue in IL and have worked with Dane rescue in TX and KY while I was a military wife. Thanks for all the hard work you do with the dogs!

And so I sort of stay on topic...my dog loves my tank. She licks the glass and lives for PWC's. She slurps from the bucket and annoys my fiance with fish breath!
