Pea Puffers: Good or bad idea?

Understandable. It's just a risk to take. They might be ok in the beginning, too, apparently they get more aggressive after they hit sexual maturity. So you'd have to be really watchful, all the time, and have somewhere to put them right away if they start being a problem

I had them in a 75 gallon mixed with fish but that was the only time I had them do ok since there was soo much room to run

Yea.. if we get them we're gonna get like 3 or 4.. I think they would just play amongst themselves...

Very bad idea. I have never heard of a happy ending with dwarf puffers and any other fish, except ottos. If you care at all for your present stock you should put puffers in the ten.

I would say it's a bad idea... but then you mentioned putting in 3-4, now I have to say it's a really bad idea. Given the individual differences between puffer 'tudes, if you put in 3-4 you are almost definitely going to find a hannibal lechter type fish. Stick with the 10 gallon, 2 puffs, and a whole bunch of plants if you want to see these fish live long happy lives.

If you put them in the community tank, either they will terrorize and possibly shred your other fish, or become so timid that they won't even go after food. If you really just have to try one in the community tank, only try 1, and try to find a female.

Good luck.

I have heard of success with zebra danios and dwarf puffers when given sufficient space, but your idea isn't very good. They will do horrible damage to their tankmates. Setting up the ten isn't a bad idea.

Do they always have to be alone?
They'll get eaten in a semi agressive tank yet they will eat others in a community tank.. whats the point?
Screw it.

Too bad we can't force fish to fit the requirement we want them to. If you can't or are unwilling to provide the care they need to thrive, then they are the wrong choice for you.
