So you want a peaceful nonschooling fish and see no difficulty there? That rules out almost all fish right there. A discus is a nice fish, it schools but it will do fine so long as other fish of some kind are around. Even if it's alone in a tank often a fish will then bond to you instead of other fish.

... a wanted a peaceful, non-schooling, blue colored fish that could live in a 30gal long tank. With Black Skirt Tetras, Corys, and a Gourami. That rules out almost every fish available on the planet. If it had been easy, I wouldn't have needed to ask for suggestions. I'm not capable of caring for a discus or equal sized fish. No more then 4-5in max length for me...
However, the various suggestions here have given me quite the list to look at, and if I ever do get a larger tank (I have my eye on a 125gal wide/tall tank at a LFS) I would not hesitate for an instant to get all the fish on that list that are compatible. Thank you for all the ideas!
