PEOPLE ARE NOT HONEST

Sorry to hear you've had so much bad luck, joon. I guess like anywhere else, you just have to be careful and find out what you can about sellers (or buyers) before making a transaction.

BTW: I had that pump and promply sent it back. It is the loudest pump I have ever heard. Great output, but loud. But I guess in your large fish room (sweet btw) it would most likely be ok.

First: love the fish room! Can I, um, "borrow" your house for a few days. If it seems quiet when you come back that's nothing to be worried about :D

Second: IMHO, if you use online work with private venders your always run the risk of being ripped off or losing your money. It's just part of life, there will always be a few who ruin it for the rest of us. I generally buy my stuff from an actual physical store where I can see what I'm buying, but failing that I would make sure to buy from an official store. Granted, it costs more, but at least you know you're safe.

I'll suggest that if you want to save some money, and find yourself surrounded by like-minded aquarists you could do far, far worse than joining a local aquarium society. most have monthly meetings and frequent auctions.

I've had nothing but positive experiences at aquarium society auctions

Sorry to read about your bad luck with private and online vendors, but don't get down because of that.Selective picking of vendors is a thing I do,I rather pay a few extra dollars in a reputable online or local store than save(or try to save) and become a victim of dishonest vendors.
One thing you should do,as I do it myself,is to search intensively for reputable online vendors, yet with affordable prices. After I find a vendor that may seems reputable I google for experiences with it.Here you can too look for recommendations and opinions.
There are dishonest people, granted, but there are also honest ones too.And some goes the extra mile to accommodate your needs.

Research your seller before going forward

I avoid Aquabid because there is so much fraud on that site...lots of the sellers seem really unprofessional also. Call me a snob, but the way the auctions look put me off...too many animated GIFs, all caps and bold, garish colors...it's just so amateurish.

I'd much rather deal with a single website, such as Ken's, MsJinkzd, or Bob's Tropical fish. I've never dealt with Captain Bob's Fishtales, but have heard all good things about him, so wouldn't hesitate to buy from him.

Try putting up WTB ads on here, and definitely look for local deals...joining an aquarium society, if you have one (you should in a big area like Philly!) is also a great idea.
