PETA Billboard Outrage: Fat Women = Beached Whales

Their ad did exactly what is was supposed to do, get you talking about Peta to your friends and family.

A quick glance, there are about 15 unique posters in this thread.

1 has responded positively.
3 have Responded neutrally.
11 have responded negatively.

That's not good odds for a legitimate organization. However, it's great for a fringe organization who is just trying to maintain it's base constituency of crazies.

And yes, I am clearly saying to anyone who supports PETA that you are a crazy person, or at least stupid. You may take that personally.

I think the issue at hand is PETA blatantly comparing over weight women with whales; not the "vegetarian diet".....PETA is an extremist group that has no tolerance or respect for anyone except their own kind.....often resorting to violence and law breaking acts against those that choose not to be a vegan. sheez!

maybe they should try a different approach and sell carnations at airports? :lipssealedsmilie: "you will be assimilated".....
veganism and vegetarianism are not the same. the two words cannot be used interchangeably as you just did. can you please explain to me how meat eaters are not an extremist group that has no tolerance or respect for anyone except their own kind? we are all meat eaters in this thread and not one meat eater has had one statement that shows tolerance towards otehr lifestyles.

im 5'8" at 140 lbs and eat beef and pork 2 and some times 3 times a day im not over weight. did i miss something
yes you missed something really big here. you are not representative of the entire world population. everyone is different.

How about this?-- The ad campaign is just plain offensive. No other "group" in the world would be allowed to be publicly mocked with impunity other than the overweight. It's time we get off our "healthy" high horses and act with a little bit of common decency, period. Not all overweight people are overweight due to their own overindulgence. You wouldn't see a billboard mocking diabetics, would you?(Yes, I am of average weight and yes, I do eat meat.) Sense of humor, good idea, mocking overweight people-- typical of our messed up society.
the real problem is that PETA is the only group that has the balls to actually say something as bluntly as others want to . I drive to work past billboards that tell people they are overweight and need plastic surgery to fix their big ugly noses (plastic surgery/weight loss/liposuction advertisements). They are telling the reader that they are fat and ugly but just putting it a little bit kinder than everyone else - where are all the people making a fuss about that?.

Also, everyone is on their high horse about everything. some people choose to say what they mean. others choose to dance around sensitive topics.

Their ad did exactly what is was supposed to do, get you talking about Peta to your friends and family.
And they have always been very good in doing just that.

BTW - I am not a member or supporter of PETA. I am not vegetarian. I am not vegan.

I am a meat eater and I know many vegetarians and vegans that I am happy to call my friends and I "tolerate" their lifestyle just fine. When groups such as PETA portray meat eaters as murderous whales, I think they have stepped over the line. Everyone is entitiled to their own choices and opinions but to shove them down the throats of others is just plain wrong; to portray anyone who does not support your opinion as a beast is just plain wrong....

People Eating Tasty Animals! "GO MEAT!"

Vegetarianism and Veganism are not the same, and there are perfectly good reasons for someone to choose either of those lifestyles. That's not saying that they are superior in anyway, in fact there are many drawbacks as well. Individuals need to evaluate themselves and make the choice. But when they're given wrong information that choice can be made for wrong reasons and be potentially dangerous.

If you consider a spectrum of people who eat meat with every meal, and rarely eat their veggies as one extreme end, and vegans as the other extreme. Both lifestyles can be healthy, and there are many cultural groups that represent each. Most people on this board lie somewhere in the middle. The point people are making is that PETA is making a blanket statement about a certain body type and wrongfully attributing that body type to meat consumption. That is not acceptable to most people, we respond negatively to liars. PETA as an organization lies to try and make their point.

I wonder what peta would say about all the animals displaced to make room for farmland. Beyond that, all of the animals hurt and killed in the harvesting process. They're really just another media organization that's adopted crackpot policies in the hopes of garnering attention and funds for their cause, which happens to be garnering attention and funds for themselves. PETA kills more animals than many of the institutions they choose to single out.

see above in red.

note that i am not angry or mad at you or anything...please dont take my comments as personal attacks...thanks

I wouldn't take anything personally, no worries, it's all good.

however, not all meat eaters have that perception on vegetareans. I love meat, but I can also respect someone who chooses not to eat meat. Two wrongs don't make a right either. Why blast a whole community when only a select few are targetting vegettereans? How many people have problems with their weight that isn't directly related with food? I wonder how happy those people would be to look at such ads while they're driving down the road.

Also, meat eaters don't try to fight a lost cause to such extremist levels as to putting down some people who have nothing to do with the cause they're fighting for.

What Peta has done in this ad isn't even surprising considering the completely crazy things they've done in the past. Some of these things being:

- Compared the slaughtering of chickens to the holacaust.

- They have targetted children, telling them that their mom kills animals

- They've done plenty of religious campaigns

....

That being said, they're a corporation that feels that ALL animals should be liberated. This includes and and all pets, including fish, cats, dogs, farm animals. They believe that in the perfect world, all animals do their thing, and we as humans, don't, under any sircumstance butt in. No animal testing for cures for deadly diseases, etc etc etc

AND, they also kill animals. They've killed thousands of animals through the years, many of which could have had a chance of getting a nice owner/home.

I'm all for fighting for a cause, privided it's balanced and fair. What I don't agree with is extremist ways to get people to think that you're doing the right thing. It's cheap, dirty, and disrespectful on so many levels.

check out these figures to see how many animals peta's killed .

I am fat and I can't blame it on meat! I eat emotionally and the only way to get around it is therapy. I think it is too funny. It just shows how nutty these people are. I love all life no matter what form it takes. I don't eat meat often mainly because I wasn't raised on it. My fat of choice is carbohydrates and I haven't heard them moo ever.

Oh by the way,

I'm pretty sure that PETA's founder, Ingrid Newkirk , the same woman that says that NOT 1 ANIMAL should be used for medical research, is living comfortably, treating her diabetes with medication that was created by ANIMAL TESTING ON DOGS!

She should practise what she preaches
