PETA ends campaign against Petco

Cool, I can dig it. I'm seldom sad to see McD get slammed, but stupid people bug me, so I think that I do have a bit of a tendancy to side with the defendant in such cases, at least, if I don't know all the details that you just provided.

Could there be a more perfect example of hypocrisy?

Actually yes, the eco terrorist group known as Greenpeace. Before you donate money to an evironmental group or buy camping goods and supplies, check to see who their supporters here in the USA are ;). It's downright scary.

Holly,

I hate to disagree with you but there have been quite a few PROVEN cases in this regard. The antifreeze is only one of their clever tricks. Let me find the rest of the PETA/Anti Hunting facts and tactics and report back. ;)

Sorry, but I'll never support PETA, even if they do some good, because in the end they are extremists who would see messageboards like this end because they feel owning pets is wrong. If you look at their official website it's obvious what they want: human beings not to use, keep, wear, eat or otherwise interfere with animals. I'm willing to bet if PETA could write law (and thank goodnes they cannot!) they would outlaw cars because too many squirrels, birds, bunnies and deer are hit by them. Sounds extreme, but that's what PETA is.

By giving in to PETA's demands Petco has set a very poor precedent and actually encouraged their ridiculous behavior. I'd rather Petco have changed their mind due to responsible protests from reasonable groups.

I have to agree, while I'm all in favour of an "ethical treatment of animals", unlike the fools in PETA I understand that nature is not some beautiful cohabitation where all the animal holds hands and prance around together. Nature is cruel. Nature is one species trying to dominate the other. Nature is predators and prey, both hoping to develop something to give them the edge over the other. Antibiotics are a perfect example of this, although it's not cute fuzzy animals, antibiotics are a fungus' way of getting the edge on bacteria which grow faster and adapt better - hence antibiotic resistance. The grace of a deer's leaps have nothing to do with a desire to look graceful, but with it's smooth, fluid movements aiding it to escape prey. Yes, there's beauty in nature, but don't think that it's beauty for the sake of beauty, it all has to do with breeding and living to breed.

I wonder if any of these people who protest the seal hunt have actually ever seen a seal. Seals are not that cute, big eyed bambi gracing the pages of your wildlife calendar. They're mean, they're a vicious predator and they're at the top of their particular food chain. The seal hunt is necessary to keep their population at a sustainable level. Yes, it has to do with fisheries too, not cod, as some fishermen would have you believe, that's man's fault, but seals eat fish and we eat fish and it's tough to develop a sustainable fishery if you have an uncontrolled population of piscivores growing unchecked.

Wow did I ever sail off topic, I guess the fishery boycott has me a little :mad2: Curse you humane society and their uninformed actions!

Hey Harlock, when ya gonna update your tank pics!

Probably tomorrow night. I skipped it the pat couple of cleanings because nothing is changing too much now. I may start moving more parrot's feather about and thinning the wisteria more though. Haven't decided yet. ;)

Topic? What topic?

PETA is full of extremists.

No one on this board can support PETA because PETA does not support keeping pets AT ALL.

In reality PETA would liberate all your fish and dump your prize naso tang in the local river because they think that is more humane than living in a 200 gallon well cared for reef tank, never mind that your local river is freshwater or brackish and tangs are saltwater.

I am glad to have found Ducks Unlimited, the only animal group so far that I can see as being reasonable. I mean a group strated by hunters to make sure that there are enough wetlands left so that they can still have ducks and other animals to hunt. A group that looks for sustainability is alright by me.

Now I am off to eat my tuna sandwich and change over some tank water (crazy I know).

TKOS, I agree with you! Good point!! There are so many people who want public parks, to go on vacation and see "neat" animals, etc. and do nothing about it then get mad when these things are not around to enjoy! People like to stay uninvolved until it effects them directly and by that time it is sometimes too late. I hope I don't butcher this too badly, but theres that saying " at first they came for the jews, and I did nothing because I'm not a jew. Then they came for the gypsies and I did nothing because I am not a gypsy. Then they came for the homosexuals and I did nothing because I am not a homosexual. Then they came for me and there was no one left to save ME. " Something like that...

The ideals of extremists are truly outrageous, but we need fringe groups to bring light to problems that might otherwise go unnoticed.
