Petco 1$ per gallon sale?

It all just depends on the Petco store, the one here where I live seems to only get 2 of each size and that's about it, but if I drive 30min south that Petco had a ton of all of them!

Some Petcos only offer the $1 per gallon on common tank sizes. Breeders, longs, & bookshelves, are not a part of the sale. I believe 10g, 20H, 29g, and 55g were the only ones they offered at the location nearest me.

Concerning the timing of the sale, they've held it at least once since the one in July of last year, at my location anyway. If you search the forum history, you should be able to track when the sales are typically held, as someone here always starts a thread letting everyone know when they happen.

As far as that article regarding the $1 per gallon sale being a ripoff is concerned, it's comparing new vs. used, and is therefore a pointless argument. Like someone else said, apples & oranges. It's a great deal for new glass, but obviously nothing compares to (fair) used prices (though many people seem to think they can get near retail for their used tank setups). Also keep in mind that used tanks are much more likely to leak, more likely to have chemicals, disease, snails, etc in the tank/gravel/decor that may show itself once the tank is filled, more likely to come bundled with parts, gravel, decor, etc that you aren't going to use and will end up replacing anyway, basically, the potential for more hassle than new equipment. While I admit, I almost always buy my tanks off CL now, I completely understand why people would rather purchase their equipment brand new, and with that in mind, $1 per gallon for the glass is far from a ripoff.

Personally, I have a bunch of spare equipment from tanks I no longer have, other deals I've gotten on CL, free stuff from people getting out of the hobby. I've got a spare Fluval 404, a Rena XP2, multiple Penguin Bio-Wheel 350s & other HOBs, a handful of heaters ranging from 50-300w, and extra PC & T5 lighting, all just sitting in the garage collecting dust. So a brand new tank, fully set up with quality spare gear, only costs me $1 per gallon. To me, that's a pretty good deal!

We're going to be the only people at the doors when they open...

I hope I am able to, I need a 29. But it might happen when I am in florida, but that wont stop me. I will go to a petco there and get one and bring it home to IL. Not like it takes a whole lot of space if I use it to store the pillows or something.

That's the great part about this hobby. If you've been in it long enough, you collect so much equipment that you can set up a new tank in a flash.

Yeah, I called my petco and they said either next week or the week after that. I explained to the guy that I will be out of state on vacation during the sale and he said that his manager would do something for me. Spoke to the manager and she said she wouldnt do anything. So I asked the normal prices of the tanks and somehow she thought I asked if the 29 was in the sale and started saying, "I would be surprised if they had the 29 in the sale". My little bro wanted to go to gamestop so on the way back I stopped in because they said they got the tanks for the sale in. They had around 8 of the 29g tanks and probably around that in 40 breeders and a bunch of 20s in both high and long. They said the only way I could get a rain check or something is if I was there and they were out.

But I do get back on the 25th or 26th so if that is the case (the sale is on the 26th), I will run up there or to another petco and see what they have left.

My dad was ok with building a stand for a 20 high or long, but now that I have seen a 40b and that it is like $114 but goes on sale for $40 I want it. But building a stand is a bit tricky since it is around 350lbs after filled with water and all the other stuff.

But I dont have a heater that big, or a filter. But I would sure get one if I got a 40b.

I cant believe they dont have the 29 in the sale though.

Edit: called another petco and she said they normally do the 29g, and I mentioned that the other local store said no 29 even though they had the tanks and they normally dont have them. She said that they probably do the 29 but if the manager of that store said they dont that it might have changed this year. But she also said that stores normally dont get the 29g as just a plain tank, it is normally a $120 kit with the filter and lighting and all that stuff. I really hope they do the 29, otherwise I have a big decision to make between a 20 or a 40b.

26th is a Tuesday, seems like an odd day to start a sale.

Would be perfect for me though :) not that I am the only one that matters, but this went from me having no way to get one to me arriving the day of the sale.

It does seem odd though. Maybe the company that makes the tanks didnt have enough so they decided to make the sale on a day that a bunch of people would probably not show up , but enough to sell the tanks without giving rainchecks. Idk, my idea might sound crazy to everyone else.

I have made a decision that I will get a 29 or a 20. My dad was all cool with any size smaller than 55 but when I got home and went to talk to my mom I said, "so we were planning on stocking that 10g with a couple guppies and one dwarf gourami but that wouldnt be that good, petco is having their $1 per gallon sale starting the day we get back..." before I even finished what I was saying she was like, "ugh, Nick" and I cut her off before that, but didnt really say much. Now it is down to if I have the money to do it right, I can do it. But she probably wouldnt go for a 40b so I wont even mention it.

Cant wait for the sale now, hopefully they actually do the sale. Oh, when I said 8 of the 29g I might have been wrong. I havent looked at tanks bigger than 10g much and the 20h looks very similar to a 29 just looking down the isle. But I do know they had at least 3, more likely 5.

they usually do the 29 i believe.

Thats what I thought, and what I found in all previoius things about this sale, but the manager was very clear that she would be shocked that they would do a 29 in the sale. But every other petco I called said it would probably be in the sale, so I am guessing she was wrong especially since they had the tanks and they normally dont get them in. When I was looking for a job there I did notice they were hiring a new manager so it could be very likely that she just didnt know.
