Petsmart Fish Policy

not the policy up here in michigan i bought 4 guppies, 3 platies, 2 swordtails, 2 mollies, and a pl*co for my tank and they sold it to me without a problem

Yes, like I said, I try to train my employees as best I could and want them to treat every customer how they would want to be treated if they were in their shoes.
I agree there are some very horrid stores out there and I wish we could do something about them as well, but I guess baby steps is in order :dive2:

Hello All :dance2:
Where've you been hiding, Candycat? Been MIA for a bit, you have ;)

. . .Oh and I'm sure many of you have noticed the new fish tags in Petsmart as well....I sure did when I had to set the new fish plannogram(fish were moved around to make space for new ones being offered and we had some that have been discontinued) about 90% of the tags have at least one piece of information that is wrong....for example the Eclipse Catfish aka Sun Catfish: on the tag it says oh that they only grow to 6" or so and that they will be fine in a 5 gal tank...load of BS if you know what I mean...they grow pretty large, anywhere from 12" - 18" is what i believe they can reach and I would say min 75 gallon tank, but that's just my opinion. Anyways, I have already spoken to my district manager and hopefully he can push it further up and have corporate rectify the problems. If you notice anything that you know to be wrong, please address it, as I think it needs to be addressed by customers as well as employees.
I was pleasantly surprised a couple of weeks ago when my family and I popped into Petsmart to grab a 29g for my son's oranda goldfish. When I asked the young guy for some dojo loaches he saw the tank in the cart and started to "grill" me :) At first I was a little defensive with the questions he was asking, but once he realized that I did, indeed, have several large tanks full of rainbowfish he backed off quite a bit and the talk turned to the inaccuracies of the rainbowfish tags (Australians to 4"? HAH! More like 5-6"). I pointed out that the tags all cited a 20 gallon minimum for pretty much all the larger fish and he mentioned that he was unhappy with that as well.

We then spent the next 20 minutes yapping about this and that and expounding on the corycat barbel "myth" (we were both in agreement that it was a myth), and he asked me a lot of questions.

He was quite knowledgable and we had a great time. :D

Candycat21...can you enlighten us on the use of Stress Coat in the fish departments? Seems at our local store, it is a very careless squirt and at other times I see people getting about 10% of the bag volume. I have actually had to ask for a new bag to be used because I felt that they had put in too much. Especially do not like the unmarked bottle they sometimes have, I refuse to let them use that, especially when the last 2 of 3 times, they could not tell me what it was. Ours does have a one knowledgable person in the fish areas and that is when I try to get there(we have no other place to go).

Stress coat is just used as a precaution, to help the fish with lost slime coating from being netted and the stress of bagging and being "shipped off" so to speak on their ride home.
The water conditioner that we have at the store I work at is actually the Proquatics brand. We have large 5 or 10 gallon jugs sent to us of this for store use purposes.
They're only supposed to do one or 2 squirts of the conditioner at most...so by all means ask for a new bag if they go overboard...I know I would.
Roan you're right it has been a while since I've been on...been so busy with moving and work, glad the moving is at least over and done with!!
