petsmart plants?

Forgot to answer question. They are much better at sticking to actual aquatic plants and emergent plants. At least at my local one that is. They are also very helpful at petland when they're not selling dogs that is. They will happily explain fish and plants and not just sell you things just for their benifit.

Petco however, horrible, last time I went in they had all kinds of plants in the water that werent aquatic.

The reason they were "flying off the shelf" is because most are too stupid to understand that some (most) are not true aquatics.

I wouldn't go as far as saying they're too stupid to understand. If you look at the label I think it says vivarium/aquarium. Many would take this as saying that compatible submerged when in fact its not. Unless you know your scientific plant names off the top of your head, its hard to tell without doing research first. I was a little fishy when I first saw them since I've never seen them in any aquarium tank before so I jotted down the scientific names and did a little research. None of them turned out to be truly aquatic, even the swordplant looking one. :lipssealedsmilie:

most are non aquatic. But you may find java fern and amazon sword in them which will be fine
.

That explains why the plants I bought from that chain in the plastic cylendars did not do well. lol :lipssealedsmilie:

My petland is pretty pricey on their plants, Their best plants I have seen were 10 2ft tall swords they got in and a dwarf lily that has about 15 6" leaves on the surface.
Mine too!
Wow thats cool

good point

Lots of good info guys, thanks!

A few years back, I complied a list of all the plant-in-a-tubes and the only true aquatic ones were:

Java Fern (named Tropica Fern)
Hygrophila 'kompakt' (named Compacta)
Wisteria
Amazon Sword
Argentine Sword
Ozelot Sword

Of course, if they have Anubias now, I guess they probably added some new stuff since then.

sweet, thanks vampie

Another reason to be careful is they are often mislabeled. I know that is the case with most of the $5 water lillies at walmart, lowes, home depot etc... If you are like me and you really don't care, then go for it.

I do agree buying plants from others on this site is usually the best way to go.
