Just want to say thanks for the help. It a 20gl long tank, i put in 2-19watt cfl, tank looks 100 times better. but i am thinking about going up 2-25watt. Tank got still got the plastic plants in them. I am planning on adding plants in the next coming weeks, and using a DIY co2. so any idea on what type of plants and where to get them. Sorry about the pics they are not to good

Not too shabby, I've often thought about replacing some of my regular fluorescent hoods with incandescent + screw-in CFLs myself.

Oh, and that's not a 20-long.

thanks guys. making it just gut the hood out, i spray the inside white, 2 sockets from lowes for $3 each, i use the same switch that came with hood. old electric cord for wiring because the wires from the hood were not enough. tape and blots for holding the socket to the hood. I also cut the white plastic that i remove from the hood and use it to hide some one the wires.

I'm intrested in doing this. Do you have any in process pix? Or like a more detailed description on how to make it? Thank you so much.

Looks great Revelino73

try this link from Jmhart http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127194

also i use this wiring info from Loaches r cool.
his should be pretty straightforward, just basic wiring. You only have two wires really, hot and common. Hot = black wire = small prong on outlet = gold screw on devices (outlets, switches, etc.). Common = white wire = large prong on outlet = silver screw. Well for the U.S. at least. All commons should be joined directly together. The hot line should be split coming out of the outlet to both switches and each switch will then have a hot line coming out going to the bulb. If any of your devices have a ground then hook all the grounds together also, ground = bare wire or green wire = green screw. I'd draw out a simple diagram but am at work.

here is what I sent revelino73 after he had seen this thread http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133738

Only parts I bought were two sockets, two bulbs (23watts each @6500K), Two switches and used some wire and solderless connecters that were laying around.

Get the sockets at Lowes, should have two holes for mounting per socket. Bulbs are cheaper at Walmart.

PS. that is a 20 high, not a long, the tank I have is a long tank, which measures 30 inches long by 12 inches high. Yours measures 24 inches long by 18 inches high.
