Pit Bull bans...WTF?

The other danger is that people are lulled into a false sense of security if the dog they are facing is not a pit bull. THere are bad dogs in every breed, and the mutt around the corner can be just as dangerous.
I'm not sure if anyone's getting mad.... maybe if they come and read these before their morning jolt, of course.... maybe because I'm trying to be as fair as I can be. My name is Dangerdoll and I am an alco... I mean dog lover, hehehe..... I love all of them, big, small... whatever the breed and if ever the mix. Just to put my thoughts in here (nursie, sorry if you feel I am perpetuating the thread) I do understand their are problems with the breed falling into the wrong hands and that there are perfectly well natured pitts out there but I also agree that the temperament isn't limited to pitts. The bite, maybe but the temperament, no. My sister got tenaciously attacked pretty badly from a beagle when we were kids and she's been petrified of dogs ever since but it didn't stop her from adopting and older German Shephard which was abused 6 years ago. Would I ever think that dog would harm a flea despite his background? Not on your life.... until he grabbed a good hold of her boyfriends neck. He (her boyfriend) was moving quickly and cowering over her which may have frightened the dog into protection, who knows.... Do I fear all shephards? Nope, not a chance.
I used to have a pitt mix that I lost in a divorce that was a little spitfire, great dog, smart as a whip, and VERY good with kids.... he just hated being reprimanded and told to move to "his corner". He was attacked at 7 months by an 8 month old Alaskan Malamute, guess who lost..... the pitt did. He my dog) was taken to the vet and had 5 stiches put on his back.
Now, I have 2 saint bernards and a doberman. Who's the most aggressive out of the bunch? The older Saint, who's the least? The doberman (a rescued one at that). I don't believe the "statistics" or the generalizations/reputations that the media plays on dogs that marks whatever breed the trophy dog of the year are fair so I don't agree with it. I think if you can't handle the dog on the leash, don't bring him outside of the yard. If the dog can't be trusted to stay in the yard, take some time out and play with it IN the yard or fix the way they are escaping. If you don't have a yard and don't believe you need one, walk the dog. If you don't have time, you don't need a dog. Dogs running loose not only risk everybody's safety out of the property but also risks the dog's safety as well.

Doll,my problem is with the topic of banning by breed. As you have just provided a great illustration....not all dogs from a breed that are considered "bully breeds" are bullies. Yep...I'm perpetuating a thread I object to... :sim: my bad :hang:
I too love dogs, and I don't want to see someone enacting some fool piece of legislation that parts me from my :dog:

...Next they our going to want to outlaw pitbull riding... :mad2:

Or you could believe the atts.org site which I could make in 15 mins with Front Page...

First, this is a legit organization that has temperment tested a lot of breeds. CNN may "do their homework" but they definately are going to find things that "match their slant." I, frankly, would NEVER trust news organizations to deliver me good data, especially on a controversial subject. They are in the business for bad news, so of course they aren't going to run a story that says "Pitbulls aren't monsters." I also bet they got their "statistics" from the CDC website... which it's own stats are severly flawed. All pitbull types are lumped into one category "pitbull." Just imagine if all retrievers were lumped into one category, they might be the lead biting "breed." Not to mention that most people cannot tell the difference between a pit and a boxer-lab mix. I even read one news story where someone thought an AKITA was a pitbull.

Second, for the http://atts.org website, all you have to do is "click" things to see the listings. The first one starts with Afgan Hounds I believe. Click it, and go in, there you have it.

As for the bite force of a pit... does it really matter if it has the stongest bite force? IMO, no. A lab, doberman, rottweiler, or siberian husky all have the ability to kill you.

I cannot find any data on specific breed bite forces (anyone want to direct me :) )... except for one show I watched on Discovery or NG were a rottie had a stronger bite force than the pit.

ummmmm... how did this come up again??

Thats it. Come monday Im starting a petition to ban Oscars. Im tired of no good thugs and miscreants with their wallet chains and such simply acting like bullies with their mean, tough fish. If they wanted a REAL fish they would buy a German Blue Ram, or a nice, pleasent Jumbo Neon.

Ruffians.

Whos with me??
