Pit Bull rant

[
while i do feel sorry for you ..and hope your dog is well ...its people like you who are ranting about a pit bull ..that make it near imposible for people like me to own one, please next time you chose to post something like this blame the dogs idiot owners ..not the dog ..i know hes the one who attacked your dog ..but his owners allowed it and that is much worse ..a more apt title would have been ..idiot dog owners .[/QUOTE]

Breed specific legislation is stupid.
If the irresponsible owners of pitbulls can no longer get a pit,
they will just switch to a different breed and then that breed will get a bad reputation.
Then what? "gee lets ban that breed too" and so on and so on untill you can't
own any type of dog.
No more rotties, german shepherds, dobermans, belgian malinois ect.
And all the while , the real problem (irresponsible owners) is ignored.
Breed specific legislation is a "feel good" type of thing.
It makes the public feel good because they think they are being protected.
It makes the politicians feel good because it makes them look like they are doing something.
But in reality it does nothing to address the real problem.
Come to think of it, it reminds me alot of gun control legislation.
just my 2 cents.

Now that's a real classic statement!

I wonder how many know how much money these people get each year - and the benefits, etc..??

Notice I didn't say, "how much these people earn each year.."

I think what is happening as far as the breed bans go is that they want to do something because no matter who you blame, bad dogs, bad owners, etc. there is a problem. I'm sure that no one can dispute that. I guess they figure that it's easier to regulate the animal instead of the human. Now whether or not they're handling this situation the correct way is really what needs to be argued over. Because I don't care how the situation is handled, I just don't want anymore people to be killed or seriously hurt, no matter what breed of dog is doing the hurting. To me that's what really matters.

I will be to the point -

If there's a "leash law" in effect where you are, then dog owners need to obey it. If the yard is secure and well fenced, fine.

What I find incredible is some dog owner saying his/her dogs never hurt anyone in the past, and yet the dogs killed or maimed someone, and they want the dogs back. I've seen these interviews on TV... It's really not a complicated issue. But I guess any 'good' lawyer can complicate 'justice'..

:hang:
:dog:

125g Joe is right, however, dogs on leashes get away from people and dogs get out of their yards all the time. You should see the things I've had to do to keep my pom/chi cross from getting out of my yard. He's no threat, but the last thing that I want is to be one of those bad owners with a dog running loose in the neighborhood.

You know...once we all figure out how to remove dogs from the hands of irresponsible pet owners, maybe we can keep children from falling into the hands of irresponsible parents...

You can have yours, I will have mine. Don't call me an idiot just becasue you disagree.... you could be called close minded because you can't hear a diff opinion. I like all the diff viewpoints here... I just don't agree with them all, but that's ok.

are we really doing this again? Didnt we just post on this?

STOP THE HATE!
