Please name some "easy to breed Cichlids"..

THANKS for ALL the replies ! You guys are the best. I breed other animals than fish. Other forums, I either get no replies or some not so good replies.
You guys are VERY helpful............ especially to a "newbie"
Now.... whats a p. zebra? common name? how to sex?
I do take the names you guys have posted & try to look em up before I ask. Not having much luck today, other than right here !
THANKS AGAIN !
Dave :D

Yellow labs go nuts to. With what ever species you decide on get more females than males, like 3 to 1. My big male runs around like a drunken sailor on shore leave so I had to provide more 'outlets' instead of just the one he was beating up on.
That's not to insinuate drunken sailors beat...heck you know what I mean.

It is a Pseudotropheus zebra:

link

Males have very distinct egg spots on anal fin, the pic in that link does not do the fish justice. Go look at some other pictures.

Wanted to tag a photo to show the big boy in action.

I've got a pair of yellows. They chase each other, the female hides alot behind the heater. Usuall temp is 77 - 80. Their in a rocky, slate rock caves 55 gallon with a few other Cichlids but, I've never seen any fry
I thought I had a male M. chipokae. He breed with a auratus. ONE fry lived to get any size. So.......... I got the male a female of his own species & put em in a seperate tank...............nothing
I got test stripes & everytime I check the water, ya couldn't ask for more perfect. :sad What am I doing wrong ? Dave :bowing:

My blue rams breed like clockwork. I have a fresh batch of eggs every week or so with two pair.

Dave, it's hiding to get away from the toment. Mine do the same thing. Is it possible to get a few more ladies?. It is nearly impossible to sex young cichlids as they have not developed their true markings, so what I did is pick some that have the smallest fins or the least colors.

Yes the P Zebra is about the worst community fish, I have seen them kill a whole tank full of SA fish when a guy bought some from me and mixed them. They do breed like mad and I had more than enough to sell/trade. If you get a large lipped male to start with the fry are easier to get rid of.

RedZebra- get a few more females, the male will bully a single female until she gets too stressed to breed. Also make sure you have a few caves for them, then do a huge water change. Boom! Tank full of fry.
