I know Pleco's eat algae and have got some algae tablets for our pleco but how do i know he is eating enough? The other fish sometimes eat the tablet before he gets to it and the cat sometimes swallows them whole! He always seems to be suckig on plants and rocks and seems to poo plenty!

Growth and lots of waste are how you know. Putting the wafers in at night after the lights are off will also help slow the other fish down. Blanched zucchini ( which will sink) also works well and many other fish such as livebearers and goldfish will eat it also.

boil some summer squash and or zucchinni for a few minutes till it's soft - drop that in there you'll see your fish will have quite a feast

Also, all plecos are not algae eaters. So, you may want to read up on your species of pleco and see what the recommended diet is.

feed your pleco 30 min after lights out, that way the other fish won't eat his food.u can also feed him shelled peas, frozen green beans.just try to see what he likes.shrimpellets are also good.mine also loves the slow sinking cichlid crumbs that i feed to my red zebras.he will literally fight the other fish for them.not sure why those crumbs are called Slow sinking(they drop like a stone imo)

Good info....thnx.

As far as the veggies....I have to weight mine down.

My Bristlenose love many veggies but the one guaranteed to have him rush out of hiding for is a simple leaf of spinach weighed down by a few gravel stones. She sucks on it till there's nothing left.

good ideas

i have 2 common plecos and all live bearers and all the fish seem to get to the algea waffers too. i have seen some where that some one put paper clips on some wood to hold the spinich, i would guess that this would be for alot of plecos, but i think one pleco wouldnt mind all the food to his self.
