Can't wait for more!

nolapete, what is the thickness of the glass pane that you will be using? will the glass be tempered? what type of lighting will you be using? will you be picking up some scuba gear for tank cleaning? what kind of time frame are you looking at for this project?

You shouldn't ever use tempered with an aquarium. It will implode if it gets damaged releasing the water it holds and sending thousands of pieces of glass everywhere.

If I go with the 72"x36" piece that my friend has for me, it is 1" thick. I may go with acrylic though because he knows where to get 96"x48"x2" pieces for pretty cheap in comparison to what I've seen everyone else list them for.

No need for scuba to clean a tank this size. It's only going to be 5 ft. deep. The tanks at my friend's restaurant and nightclub were 100K+ gallons and he did don scuba gear to swim with the sharks he had and his employees did to clean the tanks.

I don't have a set time frame on this project, though I'd like to have it done sooner than later for sure.

Lol, my wife just asked (after looking at your fish-room pictures) if you had time for your wife?!...
But she's not unwilling to the idea of having more tanks as long as she gets the equivalent in shopping money...

Sales Tax (or VAT) is only 7% in Thailand...It's the Lady's Shopping Tax that makes Thailand so bloody expensive...

Shopping = happy wife.

Yes, I have time for a wife. I'm very efficient at maintaining my tanks. Even if I wasn't, you just use the time when they go shopping to do it. It's a great way of soothing your mind when you know they are out spending all you have.

Boy is that true...about 15 years ago, my good friend met his wife. She student, he working quite some time already and earning far more than he would or could spend.
So one afternoon he gave his ATM-card to his lady to enjoy herself do some shopping.

About 2 hours later, she called him...darling, your ATM-card doesn't work anymore...
So he called the bank only to find out that there is a standard day-limit on his card that he never ever reached before....

this will be quite awesome and you will keep a lot of us quite entertained also, however the word wife comes to mind. I know you don't have one but alot of us do. I have mentioned several times that I would like to build a custom tank and I always seem to get "that look" but one day I will get to enjoy the fun of a project like this.

So how long before you expect to start the build?
I would love to have a monster tank but my house just isn't big enough plus my wife has limited me to my 180g even though i could fit in a tank 2' longer.

Helps when you watch a few Sketchup Tutorial videos.

Here's a mock up with 48"x96"x2" acrylic for 42"x90" viewable.

This weekend I'm going to try to get the garage and sunroom cleared out to be able to move all the tanks out of the fish room. It's Mardi Gras time here in New Orleans, so I don't know how much time I'll have before the end of March to work on it.
