Poor Betta

I would remove quite a bit of the sand. Just keep a small amount in there. It will be easier to stir.
I had a problem with Malaysian Trumpet snails in with a Betta once. The newborns are extremely small. Small enough that my Betta decided to eat one and had a hard time passing it.
Ramshorn snails will help eat excess food and help keep the tank sides clean.

Thanks. The only snails I've been able to find is an apple snail. Fishycat know where to get snails?

i just noticed the end of your filter's intake tube doesn't look like it has any sort of grate or guard on it to keep fish from being sucked in. you might want to put some pantyhose or a net over that intake.

I have the same filter, the end of the white tube actually has a grate built in.

Your betta is looking much better! Congratulations on getting him his own filtered tank. I hope he continues to do well.

If you take out half the sand you have in there he'll have more room to swim. Also, PM me your mailing address and I can send you loads of pretty, healthy MTS to keep the sand aerated.

Coral Reef store has (or at least had in the summer) 'feeder shrimp', 10/$1. Also Petland in Kahala had some too, but it's a bit of a drive from Schofield...

They might end up being more of a snack rather than the janitorial crew.
