Hi I just thought this would be interesting. To see what different rewarding reasons people had for keeping aquariums. For me personally, I like caring for things and knowing that over time because of me they grew larger and became healthier. Plants or fish. I also like the fact that having a successful aquarium, so many things have to be "right" like water chemistry, diseases under control, working instruments like lighting filtration, heating etc. I find it just so satisfying when I see my fish happy and healthy swimming around sucking up food without a care in the world. (that seems like it's no work) But
This is because I have been through every problem you could imagine with fish keeping. And I know that having a successful tank is a blessing

Having a successful tank I feel is such an accomplishment!
And further more my tank is filled with feeder fish I bought for a dollar, I feel good that I saved them. And these common goldfish make great pets too!

My next goal for satisfaction is to have a heavily planted aquarium, for beauty with some neat fish.

I have a tank just so I can come here and bother everybody on Aquaria Central.

:joke:

Actually I have a blog post addressing this:

I admit I have a god complex.

Doesn't everyone who has pet fish think so? To them I am the sun and the moon, bringer of prosperity, force of nature...

It helps to have something to control and care for. The successful environment gives me satisfaction. It is my little world, my retreat, my zen garden. It calms me when I'm upset, and reminds me that when things go wrong, to just keep swimming.

Achieving equilibrium in an aquarium (say that ten times fast) is an excercise in futility. However the attempt to reach that goal (creating a self-sustaining environment) is an interesting journey to say the least. You become a chemist, landscaper, chef, vet, janitor, designer, mechanic, and who knows what else in the process.

Fun stuff. I can't say I love my fish like I've loved my other pets (cats, dogs, etc.), but what they provide is of a different nature. It's more a love of the escape that it provides. The window to nature that it becomes, and the relaxation, routine and rythym of it.

I pretty much concur with graphicdesign_r.

All of it....lol. It's rather funny, actually.

My tanks keep me busy. Every lazy time I have at home, I spend it either carying or looking at fish.
